If we archive a subscription type, will that impact client’s email delivery? We just created the subscription type for the emails were sending out before for one of our programs.
(got no active lists using this subscription type, no workflow with this subscription type as trigger)
Archiving a subscription type doesn’t have a direct impact on email deliverability.
However you might want to review your approach to subscription types, ideally they should have a long shelf life, and hit the sweet spot between being not too generic and not too specific, i.e.:
“marketing” = too generic
“product updates” = good description
“product A monthly newsletter” = a bit too specific
To double check, if a subscription type gets archived but an automated email is using it in a live workflow still, will the email still send?
Assuming the recipient is subscribed to that option, of course.
Our scenarios is: We have multiple subscription types A, B and C which should all actually be under X.
So we’ve created Subscription X and want to change the emails using A, B and C to X… But want to avoid doing it manually if possible as there are a LOT.
Hi @DPMortimer - I missed the follow up question somehow, getting too many HS Community emails.
Here is what I know from experience as the current HS documentation is unfortunately a bit ambiguous on it - if you archive a subscription type but have automated emails being sent using that subscription type that will re-activate the subscription type. Same will happen when any forms or workflows are setting the archived subscription type.
The main challenge with all of this is the fact that subscription types aren’t behaving like properties where I can quickly see where is a property being used, so finding out where and when a subscription type is used is super tedious.
In the past I have done the following:
Create your new subscription type “X”, and start setting it on the relevant form submissions
Create workflows to monitor opt-in to subscription type A, B, C and set X
Replace subscription types A, B, C in your emails with subscription type X
Slowly but surely clean up (replace or remove old subscription types from all forms)
We are planning on taking a similar approach to archive an existing subscription type but are wondering what happens to a contact’s subscription preferences page. I have a couple of questions I’m hoping you can help me with:
Does the archived subscription type still show up in the list, or are archived subscription types hidden?
Also, would there be any need to unsubscribe everyone from the old subscription type before archiving it?
@smcvey archived subscription types will not show up on the preference page anymore, no - and no, there’s no need to unsubscribe contacts from a subscription type you’re about to archive. You can, but it has no effect. On the contrary, should you ever decide to unearth it again, it could be useful to have the historic information.
