I’m struggling to understand when to use a Custom Object Pipeline vs a deal pipeline. In general, I understand that deals tend to signed contracts with monetary value, but what about something like signing a new partner?
We have our partners as a custom object (being associated with their customers a.k.a company records) and I’m unsure where the pipeline should “live”, especially as those handling inbound requests work on both direct customers (deal pipeline) and new partners (new custom object pipeline?) which means they would manage their leads in two places.
Hey @enorberg, this is a great question!
I think you’ve got it right — deals are meant to house revenue opportunities and have an associated dollar amount. You can use the pipeline however works best for your organization, but I typically see a deal pipeline used to track to the progress of a revenue opportunity toward closing. It’s also used to forecase revenue, report on revenue, and tie that revenue back to tracked initiatives in HubSpot.
I don’t know much about your custom object use case, but I’ll speak to it as best I can. If you’re trying to track progress toward signing someone as a new partner, that could be a solid use case for a pipeline specific to your custom “Partner” object. That would help you visualize the journey and stages in a more helpful way than using a custom property or something like that.
I think it makes sense that your reps will be handling leads in two different places since they’re working with two different types of leads. I think that’s way better and clearer than trying to cram both pipelines into one.
Hope this helps!!
