Can a single deal be a part of two pipelines? I am struggling/trying to figure out how to track grants with this CRM. The problem is that all deals need to be captured in a single Philanthropy Pipeline however, in order to track grants effectively it seems a second pipeline would be needed. Could a deal be counted in both?
Hi @ZButler,
Thanks for reaching out to the Community!
I wanted to invite our subject matter experts to this conversation.
Hi @danmoyle, @jolle, @franksteiner79 - Do you have any advice for @ZButler’s use case?
Thank you!
Best,
Kristen
Thanks for the tag, @kvlschaefer! And great question, @ZButler! Thank you for sharing additional context.
Awesome insight from @danmoyle — although a single deal can live only within a single pipeline at a time, you could look into using deal tags to help identify the action items for each grant.
Have you looked into using a ticket pipeline? It sounds like you do need revenue tracking within the philanthropy deal pipeline, but I’m wondering if you could make a grant application ticket pipeline or something like that. The ticket would be associated with the deal, and you could set up your stages accordingly (i.e., LOI Submitted, Proposal Needed). That would allow you to keep revenue-focused activities and reminders within the deal pipeline while separating grant-specific activities and reminders in their own spot. You could automate task creation at each ticket stage as well to save some time.
You should already have basic, limited ticket functionality even if you have Service Hub Free tools, so consider checking them out!
Hope this helps!!
Thanks @kvlschaefer ![]()
@ZButler As far as I know, a Deal record will sit in one pipeline only. I don’t know of a way to split that deal across pipelines.
There may be an argument to create a Custom Object that is “Grant” to measure a different aspect of your business. You could associate a Grant to multiple Deals, Contacts, and/or Companies.
Depending on what you’re trying to measure, and separate, you might have a couple of solutions. Do you want to share more of what you need and why a Grant would live across multiple pipelines?
Dan,
Thank you so much for your response!
So a grant is a form of philanthropic giving and as such needs to be counted in that pipeline along with sponsorships and general donations. However, grants are a unique case in that they are not one-off’s.
Right now, each grant we apply to is being tracked as a “deal” and I am trying to figure out how to track that grant’s progress within the “deal”. Ex: an LOI needs to be written and submitted, once approved we then need to write the proposal, if that is approved we then need to track the reporting requirements, etc.
So, a grant does need to be tracked within the overarching philanthropy pipeline but if there is a way to separate or sequester them, that would be ideal. At the moment I am playing around with “tasks” to associate with a Grants GoogleCal. I’ve also added an additional property that will allow us to filter them out but I don’t know that I am using the most efficient means or utilizing all that Hubspot has to offer.
Not that I’m aware of - to my knowledge, deals sit in separate pipelines.
