Hello. I need some advice. We are a tax firm and we prepare proposals that we send to a clients/contacts with several associated companies. We prefer to provide one proposal, rather than multiple proposals to break out the companies- and having one deal match the proposal. In some cases Company A might get the same line item as Company B, and Company C might get different line items. Is there any way, or any workaround, that would allow us to add the company at the line item level so it will show which company gets which items? We provide services and those services might differ depending on the type of company. We thought about creating a “parent” deal and creating an automation that would create a “subdeal” for each company, but without defining which company the line item belongs to, would still require a lot of manual effort. Any feedback would be much appreciated!
Hi @LDuqmaq , Great question!
this is a pretty common challenge for firms working with multi-entity clients.
Out of the box, HubSpot doesn’t support associating line items directly with different companies within the same deal. Line items are tied to the deal itself, not to individual associated records, which is why you’re running into this limitation.
That said, a good workaround could be to add a custom property on line items, to indicate company or entity, then, for each line item, manually select which company it belongs to.
This will help to keep everything in one deal and one proposal and add this information with quotes.
Happy to think about other alternatives out of the box, in we provide free consultations.
Hope this helps!

Hi Carolina, Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. Yes, I thought about adding a custom property as a dropdown, but this would require maintaining the company data. I created a custom text property, but unfortunately this is very manual. Users would be required to edit the line items and manually add the company name or copy it. Wish there was a better workaround because it seems like a common practice across industries to have one deal with multiple associated companies and products/services.
@LDuqmaq I understand your frustration! I know a third party app that offers line items solutions through workflows, this could be another workaround you get some free plans :HubSpot Marketplace
LineNer it’s the name
Hi @LDuqmaq, our app DocuGen can turn that one deal into one proposal, with a Company column in the services table so each entity’s line items are clear. Carolina’s line item property fills that column, and the line items repeat in your own Word proposal in as many columns as you need. The proposal can also pull in details from each company associated with the deal, and the PDF saves to the deal’s attachments, all without leaving HubSpot.
You’ll find us on the DocuGen marketplace page.
P.S. The free plan covers up to 400 documents a month with no watermark, and unlimited users so your whole firm can use it at no cost.
