Deal attribution

We are trying to figure out how to correctly find the correct source of created deals and automate this process.

The goal is that when a new deal is created, we automatically get the source of the deal. Example:
Deal name: Company Name 2025

Amount: $XX.XXX.XXX

Company: Company Name

Main source: Event

Sub source: Event name

Each deal has an associated company. The problem is that, if the company was created in HubSpot years ago, and only activated recently, the company creation source will still be the one from years ago, thus won’t be correct and will essentially be worthless.

As for contacts, we cannot automatically associate the source of the contact with a deal because:
a) we don’t know which contact specifically to use

b) using the latest added contact often won’t give the correct results

c) using the first contact added to the company brings us to the same issue as the company of that contact being created ages ago and not being related to the current state of events anyway
Any tips on how to combat this issue?

Hi @NM96! Welcome to the Community-- happy to have you here

I understand you are trying to automate Deal sources. Can you share some context on how you are creating deals? This will make a difference in how the sources are defined and what options you may have.

Best,

Kennedy

We do have the option to create the deals and ask the sales to add sources of the deal in the process. The problem is, that doesn’t automate the process, but rather it’s a manual task for them to complete each time they create a new.

So it sounds like your sales reps currently are creating deals manually, is that correct? They may be able to import deals with the sources labeled. Dynamic associations may be possible with Operations hub or some custom code.
Are there any values stored on the Contacts or Companies that could be used to identify them as the proper object to associate with the deal?
