I need to build an Active List from a Static List of our “good” marketing contact customers. We were having issues with or previous list being used for email marketing in that we were getting a lot of hard bounces forcing the emails to stop sending. I ran this list with the issues through Kickbox to isolate the bad addresses, and the cleaned list imported as a static list. I created an active list with two filters to set the criteria of which contacts should be brought in.
List Membership - Is member of the Kickbox imported list,
and Form submission - for people that have filled out our email sign up form.
The cleaned static list imported from Kickbox is roughly 6K memebers, however when I built the Active List with the two Filters, it only pulled in 21. I have provided screen shot of the filter criteria. Please let me know what we need to do in order to match the count in the static list to the active list.
Hi @CGiggy,
Have all of the 6,000 contacts submitted the form? Or did they end up on the marketing recipient list via other means? If so, that would explain why the list is so small.
This might be a misunderstanding: The AND operator in your list means that a contact must both be on the Kickbox and also have submitted the form.
If you want contacts who are either on the list or have submitted the form, you would have to use the OR operator in your list, adding a second filter group below.
Best regards
Hi @CGiggy,
I would bet there’s something wrong with the form submission filter.
1. Should this be they are on the Kickbox list OR they have completed the form submission? If all of the people from the kickbox list haven’t completed this action, the and statement will pull the people that meet BOTH criteria
2. If you anticipate all 6K people should be here because they all completed a form, potentially you are using the wrong form in your filter

Hi @CGiggy,
Good news, it’s now possible to convert static lists into active lists. You should find a public beta under Settings > Product updates:
Convert Static Lists to Active Lists
- Public Beta
- Last updated: April 17, 2025
What is it?
You can now convert static lists to active lists while keeping the list ID and references intact!
Why does it matter?
Previously, after creating a static list, if you discovered that you had applied the wrong filter or wanted to update your list with a new filter, you either had to clone the list or start over. These workarounds are not only time-consuming, but also mean the list ID updates, and you lose all of the references where the list was being used.
How does it work?
Now, you can seamlessly change static lists to active lists while retaining the list ID and list references!
1. Navigate to CRM --> Lists, and click into the static list you wish to convert to an active list.
2. Select the ‘Actions’ menu in the top right of the page, and select “Convert to active”
3. Note that any manually added records may be removed or manually removed records may be added to the list once it’s converted to active
4. Click “Convert”
Now the list will update in real time as records meet the filter criteria!

*Note: only static lists with filters are eligible to be converted to active lists.

Hi Karsten, you posted this in spring 2025, but I cannot find this function any more? Do you know if this status has changed?

Hey, @KirsiSantomaa
Here are the instructions for converting Static to Active Segments. — Jaycee
Hey, @KirsiSantomaa
I think I see the issue. In the documentation it states, “The selected static segment must include filters to be converted to active."
Do you know if the static list you are testing with has at least one filter? In my test, I tried with a no-filter list, and I didn’t 'have the option. But when I have one with at least one, I get the option as expected.

Ok thanks Jaycee! I don’t have filters… so cannot be done unfortunately
