I am wondering, when I get a new business card and lets say I start imputing the contact details from the card and into hubspot crm, I type all the information for that specific contact, like; name, email, phone, address, city, country, company url etc.
After this happens, Hubspot auto creates a company contact info for that company, but what is really anoying me is that I have to enter the address, the city, the country the url all over again for that company profile.
The same happens if I add a company information first and then add a contact with the same domain as that company to the contact profile. The address field doesnt sync between them neither does the rest of the infos. Last, the company name field is blank of the contact associated with that company. If I start add this manualy I can make a spelling mistake of the company’s name and when I filter contacts by company name, I will get this wrong, just because hubspot is having me reenter all the info again and again. How do people do this? So anoying!
Anyone could help me what am I doing wrong, as I believe this is a lot of extra work everytime I add a new conatct detail to my CRM.
This is indeed the default behaviour. It would probably be wrong of HubSpot to assume that contact and company addresses, etc. were identical, but this does create either blank fields or some double entry of data.
The best solution requires workflows, a feature of Sale Pro or the Marketing Hub. With workflows, you can create condition that, when met, copy contact data to company fields and vice versa. I use this all the time to populate that pesky Contact Company Name feild, along with website URL and some other properties.
As per your reply is with great regret I read that this database has this issue. Imagine doing this for every contact? Excel will be better than using Hubspot, as this is such a crucial option for a database. Even an option you can tick and say that contact address is same as company. Now if I spell wrong lets say the name of the Company in a contacts profile, my search query will be wrong.
I will research the market for other database solution that can be easier for those updating contacts in the CRM. This just doesn’t make sense to me and I don’t have the pro yet and creating a workflow is also something that shouldn’t be done.
Another problem I see is that you can’t order by alphabet the list of contact or change the order from last name to first name. You need to create another colum of only by name field to be ablet to sort alphabeticaly. Such simple things and so obvious of need to any CRM, but one more step for Hubspot!
This sounds like it would work but can you give me the recipe for a workflow that copies the addresses from one to the other? I can’t figure out the logic of how to do this.
Phil, it would help more if you could show the actual workflow detail solution instead of making us figure it out for ourselves. Some of us (like me) are brand new to HubSpot and don’t know how to do these things. TIA.
Great answer if your are a Paid member. What if you are NOT a paid customer as many CRM programs out there this is a basic step. Is there any advice? Third Party maybe Zapier?

I noticed this very issue and have ‘chatted’ with support to forward it on to design team. Here’s what I think is happening… When a new contact is created, the first field is their email. Behind the scenes, HubSpot pulls company detail from the email address url. It then auto populates the company entry with what it finds. Here’s what happened to me specifically… I entered a new contact with an email address like name@goodyear.com and continued to create the contact file. When I went to the company entry, it had already been populated with the headquarters of Goodyear Tire Company. My contact however is from a Canadian site that I had to re-enter or edit fields for. I am sure the automation was to save time, but it actually has cost me more time as nearly all of my contacts have different addresses than the corporate headquarters. HubSpot, please just pull the company detail direct from the contact entry data as we enter it.
