When selecting or updating “Company Owner” on the “Company” tab, the only options are for “team members” and not “contacts”. This field is associated with other Company information sales as annual revenue, location, etc. Seems to follow that “Company Owner” would be the legal owner of the organization and not a hubspot “contact owner”.
Hi, @ddiggs7662. You can accomplish what you’re looking for with a custom property, but the default Company Owner field isn’t going to work the way you’re looking for.
The Company Owner (or Contact Owner, or Deal Owner) is an indicator of the user in the system who is responsible for that record, and a value can only be selected among users in your HubSpot portal.
This has got to be one of the most counterintuitive things about the crm. You mean to tell me when I’m adding data about a company, company owner is not, in fact, the owner of the company, but rather is the person whose lead it is? How does this makes sense? why would you not just call it lead owner?
Pray tell.

CW - I agree 1000%.
This alone makes me think this isn’t a good CRM.
Why in the WORLD would they stop you from putting in the name of the owner LOL
Makes no logical sense AT ALL.
Leads do NOT put themselves in our CRM, we do. And if they don’t know that then…

[Heads Up] We’re Changing the Name of the HubSpot Owner Property
At some point we’ve all been where you are now. Hope the history adds value to this conversation.
A suggestion: Ideally Hubspot will update to Hubspot Company Owner and Hubspot Contact Owner, for clarity and to reduce the unecessary cognitive load in processing “Company Owner”. We keep having to explain this to new & existing users and it creates doubts around the robustness of entire Hubspot platform.
So yeah, I had the same question. Why not just call it “record owner”, “account executive”, “account owner”… I’m not a programmer. But there is definitely a very large disconnect here…
