Changing our website domain, need help

Hello-

Since our inception, we have lived on a “.marketing” domain. Recently however we were able to purchase the “.com” and would like to change to this. Our site is hosted on GoDaddy and we are hosting the .com domain there. Currently we have a redirect setup on GoDaddy so that anyone who enters “https://www.intrinsicdigital.com” should go to .marketing.

We need to change our domain to “.com” in Hubspot, and I’m not sure how to go about doing that. The main issue is that we have a number of links out there pointing to “.marketing” and we need to redirect those to “.com” to avoid damaging our SEO. But in order to do this, it looks like we need to update the primary domain to “.com”.

I’m not 100% sure. But I assume many with Hubspot CMS have gone through a domain name change. What is the process?

Thank you!

Hi @PSewall, in addition to the resources from @DianaGomez since you’re using CMS Enterprise, you can add your current domain .marketing as a redirect domain directly within HubSpot and change your primary domain to the .com

Here’s more info on a redirect domain from the knowledge base:

  • Redirect: this subdomain can’t be used to host content, but will automatically redirect to another domain connected to HubSpot.

You’ll need to undo the DNS level redirects and I highly recommend exporting your current redirects from HubSpot first to remap them accordingly, plus adding any that you’ll need for the domain change.

Once you have the redirects ready to upload, then I would start on the domain transfer.

Steps in order:

1 - export existing redirects from HubSpot

2 - remap any redirects going from .marketing to other .marketing so they point to .com

3 - add additional redirects from .marketing to .com

4 - remove DNS level redirects (outside of high traffic hours and as close to step 5 as possible)

5 - configure your primary (.com) and redirect (.marketing) domains in HubSpot

6 - upload your updated redirect CSV

7 - verify your sitemap

8 - verify all navigation and page links have no 404 errors

9 - resubmit your sitemap to Google Search Console

10 - make sure Google Search Console is integrated with HubSpot and run your SEO Scan to help check for any internal links or other items you might’ve missed
