I’m looking for feedback/insights on creating a browse-abandonment email workflow using session data from our website (Magento). I’ve done this with a different CRM tool, and I’m not clear on how to do it in HubSpot.
At a high level, I’m thinking the process might work like this:
1) Create a Custom Objects table with session data from Magento that includes visitor user data (email or hashed email), time/date stamp, pages visited, time on each page, image links from page, and product description(s) from page.
2) Create emails where the product image and product descriptions are dynamically populated from the custom objects table.
3) Create a list of contacts with recent sessions.
4) Create a workflow triggered by the list, including the emails with delays.
One challenge I’m seeing is that an image in an email doesn’t appear to have the ability to be dynamic.
If you’re hoping to send browse abandonment emails (like when someone checks out product pages but doesn’t take action), you can do it in hubspot—but it needs a bit of setup. You’ll need the tracking code on your site to record page views, then build a workflow where contacts who visit product URLs get enrolled. Filter out anyone who already started a cart or made a purchase. From there, have HubSpot send them a customized email maybe with the product they looked at—or even a gentle nudge or offer—to pull them back in.
let me know if you want help building that workflow or personalizing those emails!
Hi @NSimonis , thank you for the response! We do have the tracking code on our web pages, and I can see and use page views today. However, my question is more around bringing in and using the other data from the session, such as: time stamp, image URL, and product descriptions that would also be passed from the website to HubSpot. Is a custom object the best way to store this data in HubSpot?
In the email tool, I also don’t see a way to use a dynamic image with the image module. Would I need to create a module in design manager to have the ability to dynamically populate the image using the image URL from our website?
Hi @SBli3,
Thank you for posting to the Community!
I’d like to tag in some of our Top Contributors to take a look here -- @Anton@AdamLPW and @Anonymous I hope you all are having an awesome Tuesday! Do any of you all have any tips for @SBli3 on how to build this out?

If you want to persist this information in the CRM, you would need to send it to HubSpot via the Tracking Code API or the CRM API.
A custom object is often the best fit if you’re logging multiple records per contact (e.g., product views, session events, or cart items). This way, you can store attributes like product name, image URL, description, timestamp, etc.
Using dynamic images in emails
The default email image module doesn’t support pulling in an image dynamically from a property.
To achieve this, you would need to create a custom module in Design Manager.
HubSpot doesn’t automatically ingest arbitrary session data; you’ll need a developer to push that info in via the API. Personalization tokens in email only work with standard/custom object properties, not raw session data. For scalability (e.g., multiple products viewed), custom objects are preferable over contact properties.
