Automatic bot filtering

Does anyone know how HubSpot automatically filters bot traffic from website analytics? I know that HS data and Google Analytics data doesn’t match, but we have been setting our own parameters to filter bot traffic in GA in addition to applying Google’s automatic filter, which has elimiated some extra bots that slip through the cracks. Does HS use the same industry lists as GA? (Such as the IAB’s international bots & spiders list?). I’m just wondering how necessary it is for us to create our own filters in HS. Thank you!

@MarComEB You can check to see if you have the filtering of known bots enabled in your account by going to Settings>Tracking and Analytics>Tracking Code>Advanced Tracking>Ensure that Bot filtering is toggled on
That is the best way to filter out known bots. I believe HubSpot updates this regularly with any known bots that enter the ecosystem.

Thank you for the response! We do have automatic filtering turned on. Do you know what lists HubSpot uses to add new bot traffic? Thanks again!

@MarComEB I do not know how they add new known bots to that list or what that list encompasses. @kvlschaefer any insight?

Hi everyone!

Thanks for tagging me in @crispyGTM :slightly_smiling_face:

@MarComEB - I wanted to share this help article with you regarding bot and IP filtering for Traffic Analytics. Bot filtering blocks out IP addresses of known bots and servers.

We don’t have a public-facing list of these bots, but it’s my understanding that this tool is updated as bot traffic is identified.

Hope this helps!

Best,

Kristen

Thank you for your response and the info! Very helpful. Thanks!
