I’m wondering how to automate a birthday email salutation to my prospects.

This can be achieved with a workflow. Navigate to Menu > Automation > Workflows > Contact-based > Contact date property and choose the field that contains the birthday:
You can then specify that this workflow should recur annually and add an automated email as the last step in the workflow:

The property referenced by the workflow must be a date property, it cannot be a single-line text, for example. When it’s a date property, HubSpot automatically recognizes month, day and year based on your settings in imports and website forms.

@karstenkoehler , quick question on birthday date properties. If the birthday has a date of 3/5/1982 - for example - will HubSpot still automate the birthday workflow to send on 3/5/2024 (e.g.). Just wanted to make sure that if/when we add the birthday, including year the contact was born, to the workflow, it will fire off correctly in a workflow. Thanks!

1) Ich würde bei diesem WF, bei den Aufnahmetriggern, die “Wiederaufnahme” aktivieren - um die Kontakte jährlich anzuschreiben. Korrekt so?
2) Ich würde bei der Aktivierung des WFs die Einstellung “Vorhandene Kontakte mit passenden Triggern” verwenden und nicht “Kontakte aufnehmen, deren Kriterien nach WF-Aktivierung zutreffen”.
Würdest du das auch so einstellen?

Hey there! I tried to recreate this workflow, however our contact property is “date of birth” (mm/dd/yyyy). That said, the propery that we used for date of birth is not available in the drop down you recommend. Do I actually have to add a differnet property to do this?

I tried your solution and it worked well. But I am facing an issue. So as of now in my case it only sends an email if the date, month and year all three match the current days date, month and year. For example a contacts Birathday is set as 08/03/2022 it would send an email because the all three match the current date. But if the same date is set as 08/03/1995, then it won’t send an email beacuse the year does not match even though the date and month does. So is there any solution to avoid this or am I doing it the worng way?
That response missed a critical issue with the date property that is posted throughout all Hubspot forums and there doesnt seem to be a soluton for it besides writing custom code or manually exorting/updating. Super frustrating
thank you for your reply. I feel like i’m getting close but no cigar just yet. I have a date_of_birth field but no birthday. Do i need to create a bithday field before putting it into the workflow?

It appears that you are making good progress towards your goal! If your system already includes a ‘date_of_birth’ field, you can utilize this field to compute birthdays within your workflow. It is not imperative to have a distinct ‘birthday’ field if the ‘date_of_birth’ field is already effectively capturing the required information.

This is now out of date as HubSpot has removed the “Contact date property” based workflow.
I wonder if anyone’s found a native solution for this in Hubspot. I ended up building my own Hubspot Happy Birthday automation via Zapier that checks for Contacts with birthdays today and sends an email and internal notification about it. It’s all custom work done via API though, not natively through an HS workflow.

hi @Jaycee_Lewis I basically ended up having a scheduled Zap that runs every morning and queries for Contacts that have birthdays that same day. It enrolls them into a Hubspot workflow that schedules a birthday email at lunch. I also have a secondary automation that sends out a Slack alert 2 weeks before birthdays so that the team has a chance to prep something nice for the client, like prepping a cupcake or sending a handwritten birthday carrd.
