When making calls, I prefer to use my headset (sound/mic). When listening to music I want my speakers, and when recording video or other “none” phone call related, I prefer to use my professional microphone.
Right now I have to change my chrome or system settings every time I want to use my computer as a computer or if I want to use my computer as a phone to make Hubspot calls.
It would be nice if Hubspot Calling had its own settings for sound input/output (I’ve seen many web-based services offer the configuration option to pick and override the system or chrome).
Hi @mfreiert that’s good news! Thanks
I was wondering what manages the default settings? Is there a way for me to set a different microphone as default for instance?
It would be great if we could set a default. On each call I have to change it back to use headset instead of speakers, but I don’t wear the headset all day and need to hear the audio on the speakers the rest of the time. It’s fairly easy to change each time, but it’s one more thing. Other web conferencing/calling apps let you select a default.
I also found it strenuous and repetitive to do the actions described above. It would be very handy to tell the calling tool/system which microphone and speaker you want to be used by default. This is a function and a setting that is accessible in most other calling applications. It will reduce the number of clicks, and it will prevent the awkwardness of the first 10 seconds when your customers don’t hear you well (as your mic by default is integrated with your computer or just of poor quality) and you have to repeat your introduction.
Same here. It is a nightmare really as I have about 8 different audio devices. Regardless of what my windows defaults are I still have to reset it every call. Hard to stay professional when I am relying on the outbound call to dial long enough to allow me to set my audio device. Please help - otherwise this calling tool could be more trouble than it is worth.
Same here. In my case it doesn’t even see my audio devices, it simply says unkown.
While communication works, the sound is incoherent due to noise. Meanwhile, every other meeting/calling app (Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, etc..) that I use in the same browser sees my audio options and allows me to select from them.
This really needs to happen. Right now, HubSpot calls default to the system’s default audio output (usually speakers), which is not ideal for a phone dialer. At the very least, calls should default to the operating system’s Default “Communications Device” that’s what headsets are for.
Routing phone call audio to general speakers by default is poor design for a calling module. We need the ability to map both the microphone and audio output to our headset, while leaving the system’s default output (speakers) for everything else.
In short:
Calls should respect the OS-defined Default Communications Device.
Users should have an option to select and persist preferred input/output devices for HubSpot Calling.
This is a basic expectation for any telephony feature. Please prioritize this.
So, after much thought and outside of the box thinking, here is the best case solution.
Windows 11 has the ability to do application specific audio input and output settings. Essentially, the only way you can get this to work the way that we want it to work at this time is to dedicate a second browser, in my case Microsoft Edge, to being a HubSpot only environment. You can tell Windows that Microsoft Edge should use your headset for input and output. This way, when you make phone calls in HubSpot using Microsoft Edge, the default communications devices will be set the way you want each time you make a phone call. Sound Settings>Volume Mixer>Apps> (App/browsers must be open to be shown in the list)
If you would like to create a desktop shortcut directly to HubSpot, opening in Microsoft Edge, you can use the following target: %windir%\explorer.exe microsoft-edge:https://app.hubspot.com/
However, following your instructions to only transcribe without suggestions or feedback, here is what you’ve stated:
Make a shortcut on the desktop to specifically open Microsoft Edge directly to HubSpot.
Everything else should be done in your primary browser. In my case, that is Google Chrome. This way, you can browse everything normally, YouTube, Spotify, whatever else you are doing that requires audio input and output and have it be completely separate from HubSpot and both have default mappings as needed.
It would definitely be ideal if HubSpot would just get their act together and allow you to specifically specify audio input and output within phone, pop-out application. But until that time, this is the best I could come up with after trying many, many different ways to keep it all in one browser.
HubSpot, if you’re seeing this, this is a little off topic, but please, please, please implement conference calling in the phone application. It’s needed for many reasons in a corporate environment. For example, training new employees, team calling prospects with different resources on the call, etc., etc., It’s very important, obviously, to make these phone calls from within HubSpot because we want them to be recorded and easily imported into the record, conference calls included.
