Many business development and sales activities begin as tasks rather than existing contacts, companies, or leads. For example, a user may create a task to investigate a test follow up on a market opportunity, research a potential customer, or contact a prospect identified through networking.
As that work progresses, the task often becomes a genuine sales opportunity. However, there is currently no straightforward way to convert a task into a lead record as users must manually create a lead, contact, or company record and then re-enter information already captured within the task.
This creates unnecessary administration, duplicates effort, and increases the risk of opportunities being missed or lost.
In some cases, a single task can identify multiple potential prospects, requiring several lead records to be created manually.
An option to “Create Lead” or “Convert to Lead” action within Tasks would be very useful.
Possible functionality:
- Create a new lead directly from a task.
- Pre-populate lead details using information contained within the task.
- Allow a task to generate multiple leads where appropriate.
- Option to retain the original task and link it to the newly created lead(s).
- Option to mark the task as completed once the lead has been created.
Benefits
- Reduces duplicate data entry.
- Improves sales team efficiency.
- Encourages better opportunity capture.
- Provides a more natural workflow from research and prospecting activities into lead management.
- Reduces the likelihood of potential business opportunities being overlooked.
Use case example:
A user receives information about a potential customer and creates a task to investigate. Following research and qualification, the task is confirmed as a genuine opportunity. Rather than manually creating a lead and re-entering information, the user simply selects “Convert to Lead” and continues the sales process.
