We are receiving feedback from customers, particularly those with complex sales processes migrating to the Commerce Hub and CPQ—that a critical feature gap is preventing their full adoption: the inability to use custom-coded quote templates.
These customers previously relied on the legacy Quote tool to implement highly specific functionality (HubL logic, custom modules, complex styling) necessary for legal compliance, specific branding, and operational efficiency.
The current CPQ quote builder does not offer the developer access needed to replicate these essential documents. As a result, the following critical migration issues exist:
No Migration Path: Custom templates built in the legacy tool cannot be transferred or used in the new CPQ flow.
Missing Functionality: There is currently no way to edit the CPQ quote template code or incorporate custom modules for advanced features and branding consistency.
This forces customers to choose between utilizing the new CPQ features and maintaining the integrity and compliance of their final sales documents, often leading them to postpone migration or benefiting from new Commerce Hub tools. Related Discussion How to edit CPQ quote templates at the code level?
Hi there!
I’m the product manager for Commerce Hub Quotes and wanted to share that we are working on adding custom coded modules for
Commerce Hub quotes and templates. Stay tuned for updates to come!
Oh, yes this a critcal need for our team as well! I upgraded our subscription so we could use the new quote builder and didn’t verify that we could edit the theme (Yikes!) before doing so. We also need the ability to edit the code so that we can print the quotes how we’d like. For example, currently when printing, the page breaks right after the sellar and contact info; this means that quote is on multiple pages. In the legacy tool we updated our themes so that all printed on one page. Looking forward to the new update and ability to edit theme code.
We invested heavily into making the old Legacy Quote builder work for our clients needs. This included things like customizing the code of the template. The new CPQ tool lacks some specific functioanlity which is a deal breaker for many of our clients going forward. Can you please allow us to opt back into the Legacy Quote builder until you make CPQ have feature parity with the old system? So examples of things I cannot do anymore:
- Edit the code of a template for advanced use-case funcationality
- Cannot issue multiple discounts on a quote
As a side note, none of us asked for AI to be built into a half-baked quoting tool. What we want is to solve real business problems with robust tools. Please consider this in the future when you release new tools which eliminante existing functionality.
Agreed. Also… An equivalent of the legacy quote system should be offered in the same tier WITHOUT having to pay for commerce… This is very annoying. So many things are hard to manage like: Pushing expiration date without recalling and edit… Legacy quotes expire EVEN when the quote has been executed by both signers… etc…
Hi Katia, when a team needs its quote document in their own branding, compliance wording and print layout, our app DocuGen generates it from their own Word template, filled with the deal’s contact, company and line item data. Whatever you design in Word, page layout included, is how the PDF comes out, with line items in as many columns as the template needs. It works alongside HubSpot Quotes, runs from the deal without leaving HubSpot and saves the file to the deal’s attachments.
