Workflow Branches that Alternate

I would love to be able to create a branch in a workflow that alternates where it sends objects moving through the workflow. For example, when a deal moves to Closed Won in our Sales Pipeline, I have a workflow that assigns the associated company to one of 3 Account Managers. Ideally, this assignment would alternate between AMs. So when one deal closes, it’s assigned to AM1, and when the next deal closes, it’s assigned to AM2, and the next one to AM3, and the next one to AM1 again, and so on.

Right now, the closest I can figure out is to use the “Random distribution by percentage” branch, but it has been the case (more than once) that a single AM will get multiple in a row before the others get any, because that’s just how the random distribution happened to work out as deals were moving through the workflow.

Does anyone have a way to achieve what I’m looking for?

There is a dedicated rotation workflow action for this: Assign ownership of records

If you do t have paid seats for these owners, the random distribution is the next best option.

Since it’s random, it will never be a true round robin - the distribution will even out over time.

The only native way to achieve a true round robin would be a custom code action, requiring Operations Hub Professional or Enterprise.
