Wordpress API integration

I’m a bit confused about the API endpoints. Right now, I need to make it so that a form on my WordPress site starts a conversation in HubSpot Help Desk, but I can’t find an endpoint that would start a conversation. I found the Ticket API and see that I can create a ticket in the Help Desk through it, but I’m not sure if that’s what I need. The goal is to send a subject and message through the WordPress form, receive this data on the HubSpot side, and start a chat between HubSpot and the WordPress site. On WordPress, I want to receive the messages that have already been sent and the ones coming from HubSpot, and likewise, I want to see the same on the HubSpot side. Which API should I use for this, and which endpoints would be best? Thank you very much for your help.

Hey, @DS171 :waving_hand: Thanks for the question. I am happy to help find some endpoints for you to look at, but before we do that, one important question for your use case: how are you handling middleware? Have you looked into Make or Zapier to see if there is a solution to help handle that part? Or do you have that part handled already? Thanks! — Jaycee

Hi Jaycee, thanks for your reply. For now, I just created a new Legacy App in the HubSpot UI and added the scopes I need to create tickets and conversations. At the moment, I’m building a Postman collection that I then want to integrate into a WP site, and the issue I ran into is that I can’t create a conversation from my side — I don’t even see a POST endpoint for creating one, only for tickets. So my question is: is there any endpoint I can use to start a conversation from my side? Thanks.

Hey, @DS171 :waving_hand: Thanks for clarifying. You are correct — there isn’t a simple POST endpoint to “create a new conversation” in the way you’re thinking (like starting a new chat thread from scratch). The most direct option is to look at using the HubSpot WordPress plugin and enable the chatflow option. Hey @evaldas @GiantFocal is there a middle ground option I am not seeing here?

Thanks! — Jaycee

Hi @DS171

If your goal is to start an actual conversation in HubSpot (not just create a ticket), then the only supported way is to use a Chatflow with the Custom API Action feature.

HubSpot does not let you create a new conversation thread directly through a public “Conversations API,” but you can trigger a chatflow that opens a conversation by connecting your WordPress form to HubSpot using the chatflow’s private endpoint.

How this Works

  1. Create a Chatflow in HubSpot (e.g., Live Chat or Bot).
  2. Add a Custom API Action in the chatflow.
  3. Your WordPress form submits data to this chatflow endpoint.
  4. The chatflow receives the payload and starts a new Help Desk conversation automatically.
  5. From there, the full 2-way chat happens inside the HubSpot Inbox.

Chatflows are the only channel that can programmatically initialize a real conversation thread.
Tickets created via API do not function like conversations, but chatflows do.
