Website doesn't work on bare domain

My website doesn’t publish on my domain i.e. example.com, it only appears if I add a content slug after like example.com/test for absolutely no apparent reason whatsoever, there’s absolutely nothing else on the domain, I just bought it, there was before a random empty blog that HubSpot created itself on the domain for literally no reason at all but I already deleted everything but the website, the only thing I can’t delete is this “Blog Listing Page” thing on Sitemap that sits below the website - just absolutely absurd and undescribably exasperating, and now it turns out the free account I have doesn’t have technical support which just seems extremely and flagrantly convenient and coincidental, so I’m asking for help here since I put just SO MUCH tedious and insufferable work into it - thanks and regards

I’m really sorry you’ve had such a frustrating experience getting your website setup @NoTechSupport.

You’re correct that the issue sits with the blog listing page. I’ve shared feedback with the HubSpot team that the blog slug shouldn’t be blank if they’re going to auto-create one, I think this happens when the website primary domain is the same as the blog primary domain - there’s an assumption that the blog would be on a separate subdomain which is false 9/10 times. cc: @CommunityTeam

To resolve it, you can go to your blog settings and where it shows the Blog Slug, you can add “blog” so that it isn’t sitting on the root domain:

Please let me know if there’s anything else I can do to get your website connected properly, I’m happy to run through the steps if you have any further trouble or questions!

Hi, thank you for your reply, as I mentioned the only place where the forsaken blog shows up or is mentioned is on Sitemap where I can’t remove it and in Content there’s no blog posts whatsoever so I just can’t access it and edit it in any way, I attached screenshots of both, I am not gonna lie this is honestly absolutely Kafkaesque, just unbelievable, undescribably annoying as is the whole platform, I know you have nothing to do with it but it’s by far the absolute worst clunkiest most tedious least intuitive website builder and overall platform I have ever used in my life

Hi @NoTechSupport you can use this URL:

Blog Settings and replace the 111111 with your HubSpot portal ID - it will take you directly to the settings where you can set the blog listing slug that I show in the screenshot of my previous reply.

@NoTechSupport I pulled your hubID from your screenshot, try this link:

Blog Settings - the blog ID won’t match yours, but I’m hoping it will redirect you to the settings.

If not, go here:

Settings - by clicking sprocket icon in upper right header navigation

Content - on left sidebar, scroll down

Blog - click to open these settings

Then you’ll see the blog settings on the middle pane and can edit the blog slug

Hi, yeah it’s already solved, I don’t know if you got my other reply since this platform is honestly just a debacle

Thanks and regards

Hi, of course it won’t let me delete nor edit the previous reply so here’s the update - I thought you meant the blog settings of a blog post which just didn’t exist but I found out it’s just a different section of general blog settings that I finally managed to find which by the way is just literally IMPOSSIBLE unless you specifically search for it, that was it indeed and the website FINALLY works on the domain so THANK YOU SO MUCH

I am not gonna lie the whole thing was honestly absolutely Kafkaesque, just unbelievably annoying as the whole platform, I know you have nothing to do with it but I just wanna state it’s by far the absolute worst clunkiest most tedious least intuitive website builder and overall platform I have ever used in my life, and frankly something tells me such a specific and incomprehensible error has something to do with the free account conveniently having no tech support which of course you find out after the fact when you need it and having to switch to a paid plan to promptly solve it for having already invested so much time and effort into it, which in such case would be undescribably despicable, shady, miserable and callous - just saying

Once again thank you very much and regards

You’re welcome @NoTechSupport I’m sorry I didn’t include the steps to access the settings with my original screenshot, and I agree, the initial experience for configuring domains and getting your website setup is not as intuitive as it used to be. I have no reason why it autocreates a blog without taking you to those settings - if someone wants a blog, they’ll create one, until then, they just want a website…

Looping in the @CommunityTeam as this has popped up a few times recently in the community because the blog listing page is taking place of the root domain, despite there not being a blog published/selected, etc. which prevents the home page from displaying on the root domain.

Absolutely, I already did, thank you!

Hey @NoTechSupport

so as Jennifer mentions

you cannot have the same domain for the website and for the blog.

Maybe when connecting for the 1st time, you didn’t separate a subdomain for the blog

and HubSpot assign the same in both tools.

You can solve this buy changing the Blog domain (to HubSpot temporary domain or subdomain)

or adding a slug /blog.

This way you will keep the main domain for the web only.

Let us know how it goes.
