Website Activity on Contact Record

Can anyone explain how this works? Do we need to have some type of tracker on our website to see this activity on a contact record in HS Sales?

Thanks

Hi @lisat2m,

If you have associated your website with HubSpot and added your tracking code, that will allow HubSpot to track visitors on your website. Depending on your HubSpot subscription level, and how many of HubSpot’s tools you use, will determine how much information is available.

Thank you,
Jenny

Where can I find documentation on whether or not I have this ability within my Hubspot instance? I want to track website visits of our contacts, but cannot find documentation on how to set this up.

Hi @mmetros,

For a detailed list of what is included by subscription level, I wanted to share our product catalogue.

Thank you,
Jenny

Thanks for the explanation. However, can you also explain HOW Hubspot is tracking this. I have added the Wordpress Hubspot plugin and activated it. So I assume the tracking code is now on my website. But what I’m trying to understand is, how does Hubspot know when one of my contacts listed in Hubspot contacts visits my website. How does it make the connection between a contact in my contact list and a visitor to my website. They are simply visitors to my website from an IP address, so how is the connection made?

Can you please share. Thanks!

Nevermind. I found the answer to this on another thread. In case anyone else is looking for this. You can read this community post: https://community.hubspot.com/t5/Dashboards-Reporting/Website-Activity-Not-Tracking/td-p/278656

But basically, the answer is that the contact has to submit a Hubspot integrated form or some other touch point, so that a cookie is created and associated with that user. Then Hubspot will be able to track that contacts interactions with your website and then populate that information in the contact user’s page.

There really should be an info box/button around that section to explain this clearly. Looking at this community forum, it does seem to be very confusing and causing a lot of wasted time on both the end-users side of things, as well as the community members having to repeatedly answer the same question.

Hello, what membership level is needed to in order to see the detail of which pages a contact has viewed on your website?

I can see ‘website activity’ in my contact view, and this shows the number of pages viewed, but not which pages.

Is it possible to access any contact details or segment info on the client side of a website with the tracker embedded? For example, that they’re an ABM target account, or they’ve been contacted by sales, etc.
