It has to start with how you demonstrate the behaviours & attitudes you want to see in your team. To be in alignment between what you say and what you do, and how you want them to show up, shows authenticity; then when appropriate, share any personal experiences, especially the challenges, related to work (and if it can relate to the job at hand, that’s even better) when you learnt the lesson, and grew from it. Also, by being sensitive to capacity of each individual team member. Know their vulnerabilities! --- This post was migrated from connect.com and was originally published at an earlier date.

In leadership, the line between vulnerability and authority isn’t just a fine one—it’s often blurred. Many leaders grapple with how to open up without sacrificing their command. Here’s my take: It’s not about choosing one over the other but blending both to enhance your leadership. Embracing vulnerability doesn’t mean oversharing or weakening your stance. It means being genuine about challenges and uncertainties, which, in turn, can fortify your authority. Leaders who express their doubts wisely invite trust and foster an environment where honesty is the norm. The E3 Leadership Profile, a cornerstone of our approach at E Equals Why, emphasizes this balance. It helps leaders harness their authentic selves, weaving vulnerability into their decision-making fabric, while maintaining the decisiveness that authority demands. Authority is strengthened, not diminished, by vulnerability. When leaders express their challenges, they are not displaying weakness, but rather inviting their teams into a shared journey towards overcoming these hurdles together. --- This post was migrated from connect.com and was originally published at an earlier date.
