Three fields for date inputs (dd-mm-YYYY)

Status: Idea Submitted

The fields for dates are currently displayed as a calendar. We would like to have an alternative version based on three separate fields (Day, Month, and Year) instead of the calendar to select these values.

The reason behind this is that we have observed low usability with the calendar because users often do not realize that they can easily navigate from year to year or from month to month. The usability was even poorer on mobile devices.

The calendar is a standard element used in other forms, and it is not specific to Hubspot. However, despite its standard usage, we believe that another format for date fields in forms would be more helpful for users.

If we replace the calendar with three select fields, where each field represents one part of the date, it would be convenient on desktop as it allows users to type and select values. On mobile devices, selects are more user-friendly and easier to understand and use.

Currently, this is not possible because if we use three separate fields, we cannot combine them to form a single date property (e.g., date of birth).

We understand that there may be other companies that prefer the calendar format for some reason. Therefore, we suggest presenting both options as choices so that we can select the preferred format when adding a date field to our forms.

All “Date of Birth” properties should allow the user to submit either a manual date, or select with dropdowns for the month, date, and especially the year. Once you get the year, it’s not so hard to scroll through 12 months, but one of our customers pointed out that they would have to scroll back 676 months to get their birthdate with the current format (as of 02/28/2025). That is an obscene amount of effort to enter your birthdate. The reason manual entry is preferred over the current “scroll back month by month” format is because of that. Hello @RRiebman and @MPascual ! Hope you’re both doing well.

Thanks so much for the feedback. I’m a designer working on Properties at HubSpot. We’re always looking for simpler ways to help users enter data, so this feedback is really helpful. You’re both right that the calendar-style date picker can be pretty challenging to use if you’re trying to go backward or forward in time by a significant amount. I can pass that feedback along to the team that owns the date picker component to see if there’s any tweaks we can make there to enable faster date selection.

One thing I’m curious about, have either of you tried typing typing the date into any date property? When you click into a date field, the calendar appears, but you can also type the date manually using the chosen format for your account. This would allow you to quickly enter a date that may be long ago or far in the future. Here’s an example of that in action:

This is also possible via an index view:
