"this year" vs "this year so far"

Can anyone explain what the difference, if any, is between any of the
This X vs This X so far filters?

Hi @danny2327,

For a lot of reports, there isn’t any different between the two – specifically if you’re reporting on anything that’s in the past. Tickets by Create date, contacts by Last activity date etc.

However, if you use a date property whose value could be in the future, things turn out slightly differently. A contact’s Next activity date, a deal’s Close date etc.

If you choose “This year”, you’ll get records with both past and future values of this year. If you choose “This year so far”, you’ll only get records with past values.

Using the example of a deal close date report: “This year so far” will only get you deals that have closed so far in 2023 and the report will stop today. “This year” will get you deals with a close date between Jan 1 and Dec 31.

Best regards!

Ah for Deals, yes of course that makes sense. The one thing I rarely deal
with so I didn’t think of it. Thanks!
