Hey!
We’re using smart rules to personalize content for various Lists. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a straight forward way of seeing the split performance per list in email analytics.
Some suggestions I’ve found is to use Compare emails and apply smart rules filter to different emails in comparison, but it doesn’t let me select the same email twice and I can’t see a way to filter by smart rules.
The second suggestion was to use Custom Reports, but no guidelines were provided.
Is there any workaround how to compare email performance between lists that received different content based on smart rules? The plan is to have around 5 lists and an efficient way to compare the performance.
Thanks for your help!
Hi @GSvidlov,
When you send a marketing email to multiple recipient lists, you should see a small dropdown at the very top of the email performance page. Here you can select each recipient list and the email performance will be broken down by that list only.
To achieve your goal, you would have to create your recipient lists in a way that they exactly match each smart rule. For example, if you display version 1 of the email to list A and version 2 of the email to list B, simply make sure that you send your email to list A and list B. After the send, you can use the small dropdown to view performance by list.
The limitation here is of course that sometimes for smart rules, you’ll use lists which are much bigger than the recipient lists, e.g. a smart rule for customers, one for non-customers (effectively the entire database). So unfortunately, this might involve a bit more list-building so that each all lists used in smart rules match the recipient lists exactly.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for your guidance! I can see the “List name” dropdown so I’m able to review each list individually. What I’m trying to achieve is having a comparison view/report to analyze performance for all lists on a single screen (similarly to Compare Emails) as there might be 5+ lists per email. Is there a way to do that or I’m stuck with viewing one list at a time?
Thank you!
On my end, I have somewhat found a workaround to get some helpful numbers via the Custom Reports by using Contacts and Marketing emails.
Essentially, it is very granular but so far it seems to be doing the trick.
1 - You can use the Email name, or Subject line, or whichever filter you wish to use to obtain the entire count of contacts to which the email was delivered.
2 - Then, add the list membership filter that you used for your Smart Rule.
Of course, this will all need to be calculated manually and will require several clones of your initial report that provides you with the total of contacts to which it was delivered and anyother filters that you wish to use for the additional smart rule lists.
Ex.
Report 1 - Number of contacts to which the email was delivered. (ex. # of total contacts delivered = 100).
Report 2 - Number of contacts to which the email was delivered, but are also part of Smart rule list 1. (30 contacts from Report 1 are part of the smart rule list 1)
Report 3 - Clone report 2 and change the delivered criterea to opened. (10 contacts from smart rule list 1 opened your email).
Take the number of contacts from Report 3 (10) and Report 2 (30), to get the open rate of approx 33.3% for that segmentation.
There might be an easier way to get this done via data sets, or other calculation formula, but I haven’t explored that avenue as of yet.
Hope this is helpful, and provides you with insights on how to push the custom reports.
Have a great day
