Reverse Proxy Verification Failed

The last two drop down or my Reverse proxy verification page says failed. What do I do?

I am building and hosting my domain on Hubspot CMS without a third party reverse proxy CDN. While connecting my domain on Hubspot cms, I allowed it to be connected with Hubspot CDN.

I have also confirmed that my records have been correctly updated on my namecheap advanced DNS.

Yet the reverse proxy verification still says failed. Specifically the last two drop down on the reverse proxy verification page (CMS PAGE EDGE that says how to fix it is that “Make sure your reverse proxy forwards the required HTTP headers: X-Forwarded-For (set to the client IP address), X-HubSpot-Trust-Forwarded-For (set to ‘true’), and X-HS-Public-Host (set to” )
AND THE
(CDN reverse proxy, which says “Directly connected to Hubspot CDN.
domain is no longer connected via reverse proxy.
it is not allowed to point directly on Hubspot CDN”)

Hi @mmenimudoh1 and welcome, it’s a pleasure to have you here!

Thanks for asking the HubSpot Community!

To start with, I’d like to share these resources that can help:

I’d love to hear from our Top Experts on this: Hi @Anton, @evaldas and @Mike_Eastwood do you have any tips on what could help fix the failed reverse proxy verification, please?

Thanks so much and have a wonderful day! :sun:

Thank you do much @Berangere, I appreciate your response. I will share one more screenshot of my domain connection process to confirm whether or not I had the bottom toggled rightly, or whether I selected the right option.

The screenshot here shows a prompt on reverse proxy/CDN request while I was connecting my domain on Hubspot,it asked whether I want to on/off.

I’m not even sure whether it is on or off as it is now, and I don’t know what is it implies to be on or off.

Let me clarify again that I don’t have anything to do with claudfare, Nginx, HAProxy or any other one.
I simply purchased my domain with namecheap and build my website in Hubspot CRM. Nothing more.

I believe the above clarification will help you assist me in resolving this.

Thank you, as I anticipate your assistant.

I can’t share the screenshot I wish to show you when I’m replying now.

I will just make another new post to include the screenshot

@Berangere, this is a continuation of my first post. I will share one more screenshot of my domain connection process to confirm whether or not I had the bottom toggled rightly, or whether I selected the right option.

The screenshot here shows a prompt on reverse proxy/CDN request, whether I want to on/off it.

I’m not even sure whether it is on or off as it is now, and what is the implication of being on or off.

Let me clarify again that I don’t have anything to do with claudfare, Nginx, HAProxy or any other one. I don’t want to include any third party, I don’t know why it says reverse proxy verification failed. And my website wouldn’t go live after connecting my domain and it shows “connected” on Hubspot.

I simply purchased my domain with namecheap and build my website in Hubspot CRM. Nothing more.

I believe the above clarification will help you assist me in resolving this, and in determining whether I should have toggled the botton the other way.

Thank you, as I anticipate your assistant.

Hi @mmenimudoh1 and thanks so much for sharing these additional screenshots and information!

Hi @Anton, @evaldas and @Mike_Eastwood do you have any insights to share with @mmenimudoh1 regarding the “Connect with HubSpot’s built-in content delivery network (CDN)” toggle and the rest, please?

Have a lovely day and thanks so much!

Hi @mmenimudoh1, getting back to you on this!

Given the information and screenshot, it I would say that the “Connect with HubSpot’s built-in content delivery network (CDN)” toggle you see should be ON for your case.

  • The reverse proxy setup flow is only for sites hosting content from multiple origins (e.g., HubSpot plus another server) under one domain, where you need that toggle off so no CNAME records are auto-created, and you manually route traffic through your own proxy with those special headers (X-Forwarded-For, X-HubSpot-Trust-Forwarded-For, X-HS-Public-Host).
  • Since you’re hosting entirely on HubSpot CMS with no other origin/proxy involved, you should connect your domain directly to HubSpot’s CDN, toggle switched ON. This is the simpler, fully-supported path and is why your account shows “connected directly to HubSpot CDN”, that’s actually correct for your use case, not an error.

The “Reverse proxy verification failed” messages you’re seeing are expected in your case: HubSpot is checking for reverse-proxy-specific configuration (headers, special CNAME) that simply doesn’t apply since you don’t have, and don’t need, a reverse proxy. You can disregard those two failed checks.

If your site still isn’t going live despite showing “connected,” that’s a separate DNS/domain-connection issue, not a reverse proxy issue. Per the overview: “If you only need to host content on HubSpot, you should connect your domain directly rather than using a reverse proxy.” For direct connection, the standard guide (linked from that page) covers the exact DNS records needed, if you’ve already set those via Namecheap and it still won’t go live, that’s worth troubleshooting separately (e.g., checking propagation, exact record values, or contacting support).

This post was created with the assistance of AI tools

Thank you so much @Berangere, I now understand that the failed reverse proxy verification is normal in my case.

The website is live now, but does not appear on SERP, I checked on Google search console, it shows it can be indexed, I requested for indexing and also submitted a Sitemap on GSC, however after google crawling the pages, it says the website is not indexed because

“HTTP IS INVALID”

EXPLANATION: I purchased the domain without SSL Certificate, after connecting to Hubspot, I was given SSL for my domain.

I have updated the domain security settings for the domain and enabled the Hubspot provided SSL.

However, after google crawling, it still shows HTTP failed.

I have two versions of my domain

  1. http://www.mmenimudoh.com
  2. https://mmenimudon.com

I submitted sitemap for the first version but google says it is not indexed because http is invalid.

Now the second version of my domain does not show any page on it whenever I click on it(and that is why I choosed the first version for sitemap).

I don’t know how to resolve this indexing issue now.
Please kindly look into it and advise me in what to do.

I am still unable to upload a screenshot of what it said in Google Search Console.

But it said “HTTP IS INVALID AND MIGHT PREVENT IT FROM BEING INDEXED (serving a site over https helps protect your user security)”

Then it also said: “HTTP MARKED WITH CANONICAL TAG”

Hi @mmenimudoh1 and thank you for sharing these details with us!

I understand that Google crawled the http:// variant instead of the canonical HTTPS one. So it looks like, it may have two mismatched properties. I’d suggest fixing the canonical first.

Here is an article that can help " Change the hosting domain for HubSpot content ".

Hey @MichaelMa, @SteveHTM and @danmoyle do you have any tips to help @mmenimudoh1, please?

Thank you very much and enjoy the day!

- For information, I’ll be out of the office from the 26th to the 30th of October included -

Thank you so much @Berangere for trying to see to my finding solution to these issues, I appreciate.

I will look up the article here and let you know what I learn.

Meanwhile, I discovered I needed to update my domain security settings to allow https, which I failed to do.

Then I updated the settings and I requested for indexing again without submitting a new Sitemap of the updated https domain

So yesterday I submitted a new Sitemap and requested for indexing, let’s see the outcome then.

I appreciate you Berangere

Thanks for thinking of me @Berangere - and welcome to the Community @mmenimudoh1! I appreciate the tag, but I don’t have additional support to offer. If it were me, this would be a case of asking HubSpot Support or a developer friend - it’s more technical than I’m comfortable with. Or I might use an AI tool (HubSpot’s Breeze Assistant would be my first step there). Thanks!
