Restore changes in properties generated by a workflow

Hello!

By mistake, I changed a workflow that enrolled many businesses and changed massively 2 business properties: “value” and a customer created property.

As a consequence, the workflow restated all these businesses value to 0, due to my mistake in the configuration of the workflow.

I already restored the workflow to avoid that the workflows keeps doing the same changes.

My question is: How can I restore the values of these 2 properties before the workflow executed the changes in all businesses enrolled? I need to restore the original value of 2 properties, the value they had just before the workflow ran.

Thanks!

Hi @MVallhonesta,

The best approach would still be this tutorial here: https://community.hubspot.com/t5/Tips-Tricks-Best-Practices/Reverting-Bulk-Property-Changes-by-Importing-Historical-Property/m-p/332929

Exporting historical values of a property, then re-importing them.

Best regards!

Thanks!!

Hello! I understand your urgent need to restore those property values. This is a common and very difficult problem to solve natively in HubSpot.

My app, WorkflowGuard, is built to prevent this exact type of mistake. While WorkflowGuard focuses on restoring the workflow itself, not the data it changed, here is how it would have been a critical tool in this situation:

  • Instant Workflow Rollback: My app would have let you immediately restore the workflow to its previous, correct version with a single click. This would stop it from continuing to set the business property values to zero, which you’ve already done manually.
  • Averted Crisis: If you had been using WorkflowGuard, you could have restored the correct workflow before it was executed, preventing the incorrect property values from being set in the first place.

While WorkflowGuard can’t restore the data (the property values), it is the only app on the HubSpot marketplace that allows you to easily restore a workflow to a previous state. This capability acts as a crucial safety net, ensuring that you don’t face a similar data corruption issue in the future due to an accidental workflow change.

Hi @MVallhonesta,

Good news, should this happen again, there is now a dedicated feature for that :slightly_smiling_face: HubSpot Login and Sign in

Workflow CRM Property Data Restore

What’s changed?

Updated to reference “Restore CRM Properties and Records” as the underlying backup system instead of “Unified Data Backup and Restore system,” providing clearer naming and alignment with the current platform terminology. No changes to functionality or access requirements.

What is it?

Workflow CRM Property Restore is a feature that allows admins to safely undo CRM property changes made by a workflow within the last 14 days.

Instead of manually fixing records, you can restore property values that were changed during that period, helping you quickly recover from unintended changes.

Workflow Data Restore is built on HubSpot’s Restore CRM Properties and Records, which automatically captures CRM changes made in the last 14 days. This ensures you can reliably restore CRM property updates done by a Workflow!

Why does it matter?

Workflows are a powerful automation tool in HubSpot that can update thousands of CRM records in seconds. However, if it’s configured in a way that doesn’t match the intended outcome, such as incorrect enrollment criteria, logic errors, or accidental edits, it can unintentionally update or delete a large number of CRM records.

Without an easy way to undo those updates, users spend hours manually exporting, filtering, and repairing data to get things back to the way they were.

Workflow CRM Data Restore helps teams:
Recover quickly from automation mistakes
  • Fix unintended property changes without exporting data or writing cleanup workflows
  • Restore values changed by a workflow without undoing other recent work
Reduce operational risk when iterating on workflows
  • Make changes to live workflows with more confidence
  • Experiment and improve automation, knowing there’s a clear recovery path
Save time and prevent manual cleanup
  • Avoid hours of spreadsheet work or doing imports to update data
  • Eliminate the need to re-enter data or reverse changes record by record
Maintain data trust across teams
  • Ensure CRM data stays accurate and reliable
  • Minimize downstream impact on reporting, sales processes, and customer communication

By giving you a way to undo changes, Workflow Data Restore makes Workflows safer to use at scale, especially for teams that rely heavily on workflows to manage critical CRM data.

How does it work?

Data Backup and Restore Public Beta access is also required

Workflow Data Restore is built on HubSpot’s Unified Data Backup and Restore system. To use this feature, you must also be enrolled in the Unified Data Backup and Restore public beta.
