Record Source Detail 1: Interaction with the HubSpot tracking code

Hello,

I’ve noticed that the Record Source Detail 1 property occasionally says “Interaction with the HubSpot Tracking Code” for a contact. I need help understanding what this source means. I understand what the tracking code is but what could the actual interaction be that causes some contacts to have this source?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Jenny

Hi @Jenny26 never came accross this. What is the Record Source in these situations?

Hi Catarina,

Thank you for replying! The Record Source is “analytics.”

This knowledge base article gives an overview of the Record Source properties but doesn’t indicate what specifically occurs that prompts the “Interaction with the HubSpot tracking code” Record Source Detail 1 value. It’s a new one for me.

Thank you,

Jenny

This indicates that the web analytics profile was created from analytic tracking on your website or other platforms (where HubSpot analytics are enabled).
In these situations the web analytics record/profile is the first thing that is created. Every visitor with cookies enabled will get one. Then if an action occurs that can link that contact with the analytics profile then a contact record can be created and the web analytics record associated to the contact. The record source is then set as Analytics.
According to chat gpt, this is when that will happen:

1. Tracking Visitor Interactions: HubSpot’s analytics tools track interactions on your website, such as page views, form submissions, or live chat engagements. When a visitor performs a significant interaction that can be associated with an email address, HubSpot may automatically create a new contact record.

2. Email Attribution: If a visitor fills out a form and provides their email address, any previous anonymous analytic data (like page views) collected via HubSpot’s tracking cookies can be attributed to this new contact. This helps in building a complete profile of the contact’s interactions with your website before they formally identified themselves.

3. Source Identification: The “analytics” value essentially means that the contact was not manually entered or imported but was instead derived from the analysis of user behavior tracked by HubSpot’s tools. This helps in understanding the origins of your contact data and optimizing your marketing strategies accordingly.

4. Conversion Path Insight: Knowing that a contact originated from “analytics” can provide valuable insights into which aspects of your digital presence are effectively converting visitors into leads. This information can guide adjustments in marketing tactics to capitalize on successful conversion paths or improve underperforming ones.

Hello @Jenny26,

When you see “Interaction with the HubSpot Tracking Code” listed as a Record Source Detail for a contact, it typically indicates that the contact has interacted with your website in a way that triggers the HubSpot tracking code. This could involve various activities such as visiting pages that have the HubSpot tracking code installed, submitting forms, or interacting with other trackable content like emails that lead back to your website.

Essentially, this label is used to denote that the contact’s details were captured or updated due to their engagement with content where HubSpot’s tracking functionalities are enabled. This is a general tag used by HubSpot to signal any interaction that isn’t tied to a more specific source such as direct form submissions, email interactions, or integration updates.

If you’re looking for more detailed insights into what specific actions are triggering this source, you might consider looking into the contact’s timeline in HubSpot, where you can see detailed activity logs. This can give you a clearer picture of their interactions with your site and marketing content.

Hope this helps!

Best,

Avi Afriat

Thank you so much!

@Jenny26 Of course!
