Property Sync with Salesforce

We have the Lifecycle Stage property in Hubspot. I have also created a field in Salesforce to pass on Lifecycle stage values.
I am planning to sync these two fields for the first time. I wanted to pass on values from Hubspot only to SF and not the other way around. What rule should I select while mapping?
I tried selecting a two-way sync rule and selected the option of gradually updating values. But I noticed that since in SF the values were blank, for a small portion of contacts, the values got updated in Hubspot to blank.
What’s the best way to sync fields for the first time?

My understanding of your query is related to passing values between Salesforce and HubSpot and preferring the HubSpot value. Would this be correct?

When it comes to our property mappings from Salesforce, we would have 4 options as outlined in this Knowledge Base.

These would include:

  1. Prefer Salesforce unless blank: HubSpot will only pass a value to Salesforce if there is currently no value in Salesforce. If a value exists in Salesforce, this value will always overwrite the existing value in HubSpot. If you delete the value in Salesforce, the value will also be deleted in HubSpot.
  2. Always use SalesforceHubSpot will never pass data to Salesforce, even if there is no value in Salesforce. If there is a value in Salesforce, the value will always overwrite the existing value in HubSpot. If you delete the value in Salesforce, the value will also be deleted in HubSpot.
  3. Two-wayThe most recent value will always overwrite any existing values. If the value is deleted in HubSpot, it will also be deleted in Salesforce, and vice versa.
  4. Don’t syncData will never pass between HubSpot and Salesforce. If the value is deleted in HubSpot, it will not be deleted in Salesforce, and vice versa.

As we can see with these options, we wouldn’t have the option to prefer HubSpot’s value over Salesforce. However, one thing we could do is to set this as a two-way sync and from there add a restriction to the corresponding property in Salesforce that only certain users could update this.

This is a requested feature for the integration as seen here: Need Sync rule to favor Hubspot value. Normally in these situations, not having this kind of an option would occur due to a limitation with the platform we’re syncing to. I’d recommend upvoting this idea as this would be the best way to pass this info back to the product team.

Thanks, Diana for your response. Yes, you are correct that I want to prefer Hubspot value.
I think your suggestion about Two-way sync is correct. My additional query is how should I sync values for the first time. If I opt for two-way sync and since most of the values in SF are empty this will update my values in Hubspot and make them empty.
Should I first opt for ‘prefer salesforce’ rule so this will update the blank values in SF and then change the rule to two-way sync? Additionally, after this, I will add a restriction to the corresponding property in Salesforce that only certain users can update this field.

Hello @rulpats, thank you for the details. In this case, yes, the best option would be to prefer Salesforce unless blank option. This way, the values from HubSpot would be transferred to Salesforce. Once this is done, you can use the two-way sync option so the most recent value will always overwrite any existing values.
