Hi! We’ve joined the Projects (Object) beta and are experimenting with migrating projects over from the existing Projects space. One element of the existing Projects space we use frequently is Project templates. Does anyone know if there’s a way to create a template in the Project (Object)? Currently, when a Project (Object) is cloned, it does not clone the associated tasks. (I’m trying to avoid creating workflows to create the tasks).
Hi @SPaine82
Thank you for reaching out to the Community!
I’d like to invite some community members who are subject matter experts to join this conversation.
@Lucila-Andimol @karstenkoehler @ScottPennwood - Would you be able to share any insights on this? Your expertise would be greatly appreciated.
Best,
Victor
Hi @SPaine82,
At this point, now, it doesn’t seem that way, no – but I agree that this would be very useful to have. I’d be surprised if the product team behind projects does not have this on their roadmap. Still, I’d recommend submitting this in the HubSpot ideas section of the community which is monitored by the product team.
Sharing here the Idea that @SPaine82 created “Ability to create Project templates in new Project objects” so that you can all add your upvote and use cases.
Best regards!
@karstenkoehler — Thank you for the response and recommendation to submit in the ideas section. I will do that!
While this isn’t an option quite yet, HubSpot has listed Project templates as “in development” (along with subtasks and dependencies). I’ve heard that those fast-follow features will be coming soon, so hoping we see a couple of them launching over the next few weeks.
You can learn more about those new “in development” features by going to the Product Updates section of your HubSpot portal and searching for “Project”.
This is great news! Thank you for the update!
Use the Breeze AI assistant on top right of your screen. Ask it to copy the project including tasks, owners, etc. You’ll be surprised on what it can do. Use common sense to guide it in the right direction when it asks you what to do next and stick to what you want it to do and don’t give up when it says it can’t or it needs more input. I’ve done it on several occasions so it can be done.
Hi @TWillems and thank you so much for sharing your experience and this great tip about using the Breeze AI assistant! ![]()
It’s fantastic to hear that you’ve successfully used it to copy projects along with tasks and owners.
Would you be willing to share the prompt you used for this? I’m sure it would be super helpful for other community members as well! ![]()
Thanks and have a great day!

Hello BérangèreL,
Yes I can. But the prompt is more of a chat. I re-created the chat to make sure it worked and also took a screenshot with result. I have to note that I did not ask the AI to also clone the task start- and due dates so in the result screenshot these are all the same. I did adjust the initial prompt in the example so people with start with correct initial prompt:
Can you clone project “Your project name” in “Your Projects pipeline name” Projects Pipeline and include all project properties and underlying tasks, task owners and task start- and due dates? Please answer before you execute.
You will see that at some point in the chat I needed to point the AI into the right direction when AI could not associate task and project correctly due to picking the incorrect ID. The correct ID (for created new project) was mentioned by AI in conformation request earlier in the chat. I noticed that and put the AI on the right track again.
This is the full chat: (it’s long… ![]()
Can you clone project “Ambient Loops” in “NLSPPT26” Projects Pipeline and include all project properties and underlying tasks, task owners and task start- and due dates? Please answer before you execute.
---
Here’s how I will approach cloning the “Ambient Loops” project in the “NLSPPT26” Projects Pipeline:
Identify the “Ambient Loops” project in the correct pipeline.
Copy all of the project’s property values.
Retrieve all underlying tasks, including their owners/assignees.
Create a new project in “NLSPPT26” with the same properties.
Clone each associated task under the new project, assigning them to the corresponding owners.
Would you like the cloned project to have a distinct name (such as “Ambient Loops (Copy)”)? Also, should all task due dates remain the same as the original, or would you like to shift them relative to the clone date? Please confirm or specify your preferences before I proceed.
---
Yes: Template X
---
Here’s the cloning plan for project “Ambient Loops” into “Template X” within the NLSPPT26 pipeline:
All current project properties (such as due date, pipeline stage, sponsor, and more) will be copied from “Ambient Loops” to the new project “Template X”.
Underlying tasks to be cloned include:
Ambient Loops kick-off
Attend Project Introduction Meeting
Update concept PvA with steering commission Feedback
Update concept with sponsor feedback
Attend sponsor feedback meeting
Attend PvA Steering Committee presentation
Prepare concept plan
Update “Weekly Updates” & “Roadblocks” properties on Spearhead record.
Prepare & attend SSU meeting
Each new task will inherit its owner’s assignment from the original task (where task owners are set).
If this is correct and you’d like to proceed as described, please confirm. If there are any specific attributes to omit or modify (like due dates, sponsors, etc.), let me know before I initiate the clone process.

Proceed as described.

The task creation attempt failed due to a type mismatch with the association IDs used. It looks like the association type provided (ID 1246) does not correspond to linking a task with a project or related record. Instead, the available association for tasks to projects is with association type ID 1247.
Would you like me to retry creating these tasks using the correct association to the project? If that’s your intent, please confirm the Project or record you want to link these tasks to, so I can proceed with the adjustment.

Is this still working for you? The chat bot says the following when I request cloning:
- Automatic copy blocked
Tasks cannot be copied automatically due to a system issue with the Projects object; manual copying
Here is my full request:
Can you clone project 657077091053 with all of its tasks?
I still can’t access your Projects custom object reliably due to the same system-level issue as before, so I’m not able to programmatically clone project 657077091053 or its tasks from here.
To get the clone you want right now, you’ll need to:
-
Manually create a new project:
- In Projects, create a new project in the correct pipeline/stage.
- Copy all key fields from project 657077091053 (name, dates, owner, etc.).
-
Duplicate its tasks:
- On 657077091053, open the Tasks section.
- For each task:
- Create a new task.
- Copy: title, notes, owner (Assigned to), start date, due date.
- Associate each new task to the new project.
If you tell me which project fields you care about most (e.g., Event date, City, Venue, Budget, Status), I can give you a very tight checklist you can follow while cloning so nothing is missed.
can you copy tasks from project 657077091053 to project 657424563942?
Reasoned for 11 seconds.
I’m still blocked by the same system issue with your Projects custom object, so I can’t read either project or their associated tasks programmatically. That means I can’t copy the tasks from project 657077091053 to project 657424563942 for you from here.
To get the tasks copied today, you’ll need to:
- Open project 657077091053 and go to its Tasks section.
- For each task, create a new task on project 657424563942 and copy:
- Task title
- Notes
- Assigned to
- Start date
- Due date
- Associate each new task with project 657424563942.
If you’d like, tell me how many tasks there are and which fields matter most, and I’ll give you a very tight step-by-step checklist you can follow while you’re doing the manual copy so you don’t miss anything.

Hi @VPlatov,
Thank you for posting to the Community!
I’d like to tag in some of our Top Contributors to see if they have any ideas on this -- Hi @GreyHamilton @ChrisoKlepke and @Alex_Elborn Have any of you all seen this error before? If so, how did you resolve?
Cassie, Community Manager
Hello - I wanted to see if there has been in progresss toward a release of templates in the projects object. In particular tasks and sub tasks. We have repetitive projects for new clients and tracking the progress in HubSpot without having it recreate the 10-30 steps of tasks would be a huge win. Thanks! Writ
Last we heard in December, project templates were expected to be in beta in April this year!
You can see Mark Miller, HubSpot’s product manager, talking about the Projects roadmap in this video from our webinar. Obviously these dates may change, but this is how the roadmap was looking at the end of last year.
