Page Template Updates Not Reflected on Pages

Hi all,

I am creating new pages in Content Staging with a new page template, basically header and footer. I’ve noticed that updates to the page template are not being updated in the pages? Is there a step that needs to happen to see these updated, like do I have to go into each page and trigger something? I did try going into one and removing, readding the page template, but that made it worse as we lost some of our content work. AND it seems to have overridden any content update revisions we had, so we can’t step back to them.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated!

Colin

Hi @evanshunt

The behaviour of changes made at the template level vs what happens on existing pages already using those templates can be a little tricky to follow.

This article may help you to identify why you are seeing the behaviouor you are: Why are the changes I’ve made to a module’s content on my template not being applied to my content?

We often prefer to create new templates over making changes to ones already in use.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Phil. So I am using this template for header and footer. So are you saying if we need to change a global header menu link, we should create a new template with that update, then apply this new “page template” to our page?

Hi @evanshunt

Global templates are an exception to this case and their contents should update on every page on which they appear. More here: How to use global content across multiple templates

Hope this helps.

In the end, here is what we did. Instead of html blocks we made the header and footer custom modules that we inserted here instead. Now we can update header and footer and changes get reflected right away.
