Does anyone know if HubSpot Unsubscribes are managed at an e-mail level or a contact level? We have multiple contacts that opt-out of blogs becusae their company policies prevent them from receiving the emails. But they still want to opt-in with a personal email address. In reviewing the Contact record, it appears the CONTACT is opted-out instead of the e-mail being opted out for the contact. Right now, HubSpot tracks the types of emails as primary and secondary. It would be useful to update that tracking to work, personal, home, etc. so that we can identify which email should still be opted into communications.
On how HubSpot marketing email sends emails. Whenever an email is sent, this email is sent to the primary email address of the contact record. This means that if emailaddress2@gmail.com (that is not opted out), is updated to the primary email address of the contact, future emails moving forward will be able to be successfully sent to the contact as that email is not opted out.
In this instance, it may be a consideration for the following
Create a separate contact for the personal email addresses of these contact record, so that you will be able to send emails to contacts with personal email address
Make the personal email address the primary email of a contact record so that you’ll be able to send emails to these contacts.
Hope the above clarifies on this.
Let me know if you have any more questions on the above and I’ll be happy to help.
Hi Alex - thanks for this. So there is only one column for OptOut Status on a Contact record, - are you saying that they can opt out of the personal email but keep the professional email active? I have a contact and her record reads “XXX is opted out of email” but she has no optout marker for the blor or email that I can see. Her contact email is in 2 suppression files that I use and I see on her record that today she opened an email from us sent yesterday. She subscribed to a secondary blog in February but we suppressed those subscribers from the primary blog, but her status says optout from all emails but she is getting the emails. Odd.
So what you are saying, is marketing emails only go to the email selected as Primary so if the person opts-out with a secondary email, she can still get marketing emails and blog emails with the primary?
We don’t create dupes when we can avoid it. We know that some corporations have firewalls keeping blog emails out so clients often use their personal email.
Thanks for your help here - she slipped through two suppression files and I am not sure how.
Yes you are right, if the secondary email is opted out, but the primary email is opted in, HubSpot will only look at the primary email when sending out marketing emails
