Job Title: Software Developer – SASSA Payment Date Notification System

About Us

We (SASSA status check) are a digital support platform serving millions of South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) grant beneficiaries. Our goal is to simplify access to grant information and improve communication through technology. We are now building a software tool that will notify grant beneficiaries via SMS when their payment date arrives.


Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Software Developer to lead the development of a payment notification system. The goal is to create a secure and user-friendly software tool that can send automated SMS alerts to grant beneficiaries when their SASSA payment date is confirmed.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop a scalable software system to track SASSA payment dates.
  • Integrate with a bulk SMS gateway API to send automated SMS notifications.
  • Build a secure user database with mobile numbers and grant details.
  • Develop an admin dashboard to manage and monitor SMS campaigns.
  • Ensure system stability, data privacy, and compliance with POPIA.
  • Collaborate with the support and content teams to test and deploy the tool.
  • Provide documentation and basic training to internal users.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in full-stack software development.
  • Proficient in backend languages like PHP, Python, or Node.js.
  • Experience with front-end frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue.js.
  • Strong knowledge of databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB).
  • Previous work with SMS gateway APIs (e.g., Twilio, Clickatell, or local providers).
  • Understanding of data protection and compliance (POPIA or GDPR).
  • Ability to work independently and deliver on deadlines.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working on fintech, gov-tech, or notification-based platforms.
  • Familiarity with SASSA systems or South African government data portals.
  • Knowledge of WordPress or API integration with CMS platforms.
