I am updating our email subscription types and one type I would like to create is “Industry”, but then allow the contact to select which industry they are interested in receiving marketing communication for. For example:
Industry
Manufacturing
SaaS
Tech…etc.
The user would then be able to select just manufacturing if that were applicable.
Playing **bleep**'s advocate here. Email subscription types relate to the type of content I agree to receive - for example a monthly newsletter, upcoming events & webinars, latest product updates, etc.
Industry, is already a property in HubSpot, and as far as I am concerned should not be a subscription type - unless you call it “industry news”.
By combining the subscription type - “industry news” or “monthly newsletter” with the “industry property” you can create segments (lists) and either send specific emails to each group or use smart content rules to send one email whose content changes based on which segment a contact falls into.
I realize there is an industry property in Hubspot.
Quarterly newsletter isn’t necessarily relevant to someone in the manufacturing industry, so allowing them to choose “Manufacturing” as a topic (Under industry news as you suggest), vs Quarterly Newsletter is what I’m after.
I am guessing in the preference center there isn’t a way to do this based on your response.
It’s up to you to choose how you want to collect or segment the data, whether by industry or topic.
Anyways, for this type of subscription, first you have to create a custom property (industry or something similar to your newsletter) which you have already figured out to put on the form.
Next you have to create the email subscription types for each option (you can combine them as well), and then create a workflow to enroll contact in that email subscription.
For example:
Contact A selected the “Manufacturing” option, and Contact B selected the “SaaS” option on the form. You should create relevant subscription types for these options in email settings. Then, create a workflow to opt-in Contact A and B in the relevant subscription types. HubSpot Workflow will put them into the email subscriptions type they selected.
When you’re ready to send the email, you’ll select that email subscription type.
Thanks.
Overall, this seems to make sense, but I’m struggling to make it work (as I’m having the same issue as the original poster). I’ve created a custom property with three options: Sample A, Sample B, Sample C. Property is named Test. When I go to create subscription types, how do I connect these? Many thanks.
Hi @jtEnvoy -- Next, create 3 dynamic contact lists using these custom values which will be an enrollment criteria of your workflow.
If you’ve not already created, please create three subscription types from email subscriptions settings. (screenshot example below)
Now create a workflow for each subscription types to opt-in those contacts (it looks something like this). You can create a single workflow or 3 different workflows.
