multi-checkbox workflow

I created a workflow that uses a multi-checkbox property with 5 different selections. My initial thought was that I could create the workflow with a Value Equals branch, and then have each branch create a task assigned to a specific person. So, if someone chose A, B, D, and F, then 4 tasks would be created for 4 different people.

Since that failed, I did some research and found that “If you’re using a Value equals branch with the criteria based on a multi-checkbox type property, and your record has more than one value, the record will proceed down the None met branch as it is not an exact match.”

This makes no sense. In other words, you CANNOT use the Value Equals branch with a multi-checkbox. But HubSpot lets you walk right into it.

Instead it says I should use the if/then branch. Which is idiotic. B/c there would be 120 different combinations for 5 selections that I would then have to write into a workflow.

Hi @esealpha,

A couple of options. You could use create a workflow with a bunch of if/then branches as mentioned. I did this for a client recently and it’s a lot of work up front, but it wasn’t terrible.

Another option is to run through the workflow, check for the first option assign or don’t assign the task if that option is selected, and then kick them to another workflow to check the second option. In this scenario, you’d have 5 separate workflows, one for each of the multi-checkboxes.

Alternatively, you could just have the 5 separate workflows and adjust your enrollment criteria accordingly so you aren’t kicking them from one to the other. You could base this on the multi-checkbox values or add the contacts to a list if that option is selected and use the list as your enrollment criteria.

I’m pretty sure that either would work for you and be quicker than if/then branches.

Great overview of options, @Josh!
