MQL, SQL and Deal best practice

Hi,
Im setting up our ways of working at the company with MQLs and SQLs and I’m having trouble finding the best practices. I really want to avoid creating a deal of all the MQL, since tagging companies and contacts with Life cycle stage (LCS): Opportunity seems wrong and bad practice since the contact is not ready to be contacted. And moving contact backwards in LCS also seems like bad practice.
It seems like best practice is to use Contact LCS: SQL and Contact LCS: MQL. We will work a lot with lists, then create deals when the contact has an actual booked sales meeting.
I’m thinking about the following process:

What are your thoughts?
(It would be great to avoid using Lead status to keep it simple in the beginning, but if this is something that we need according to your experience, I minds as well start using this right away.)
Thanks,
Marcus

Hi @MarcusWennmo

This is a topic I love discussing!

Since all contacts that convert on your website (by submitting a form) will become a lead by default, this has to be your starting point for lead management in my opinion.

These leads should then be nurtured to point that they are ready, or ask, to be handed over to Sales - which I recommend is MQL.

If your sales team have to do a qualification process before accepting to work with an MQL, then you can use SQL before opportunity. But for many businesses there is no need.

As you know, Opportunity will be applied automatically once a deal is created, as will Customer once it is Closed Won.

Hope this helps?
