HubSpot’s merge functionality is less than optimal. It does not allow for admins to choose the data to “move” over and actually will overwrite older, vetted data with new or blank data.
This idea is to do what other dbs do -- show contact data that is different side by side when merging a single contact, company, or deal to another. In bulk instances, pick which contact, company or deal is “primary” in order to keep that data secure.
Hey @Staceylm,
Yes this would be an excellent addition.
If you were open to using an app, Insycle could help with this. Full disclosure, I work there as a product marketer. But I
With Insycle, you can use any field in your HubSpot CRM as a duplicate matching field. You can also set rules for choosing the resulting post-merge master record (such as the most recently updated record, first created record, etc.)
Then, you can set rules for retaining data on a field-by-field level. So for example, “Keep Email from the record that most recently opened an email,” or “Keep lifecycle stage from any company with the lifecycle stage of customer.”
And you can do this for any field in your database, so you’ll have full control over your data retention when merging.
Hope that helps!
