Line Item association to custom object

I have a need to assocaite a line item to a custom object. In our case it is a custom object representing a license that allows the customer to use the product.

I can only create the association in the API, and once created, there’s no way on the HubSpot web app to add, edit, or delete those associations.

I was hoping that in the line item editor, I could select a custom object to associate with the line item, but that isn’t available.

Is having a line item associated with a custom object allowed via the API but basically unusable in the HubSpot CRM website? Or is there something I’m missing?
