I have imported a list of contacts from an old ESP and i have come across a record where the import has added an additional email address to the same record.
However they are two seperate contacts and it should not have added the email address as an additonal email and it has also overwritten the last name field.
How can i stop this going forwards?
How can i identify any other records this might have occured to?
This depends a bit on how your import file was set up but generally, if a contact has two email addresses and they appear in different rows of an import file, HubSpot has no way of knowing that they should be automatically merged.
@karstenkoehler its not case of two records being created and needed to be merged but actually an extra email address added to a contact record when it should have created a new record as the email address does not match.
It added this email address to a contact record which has the email address pglad@hotmail.com You can see these are 2 different email addresses so it should not have added the a.glad email address to this record. I would expect it to create a new record.
@karstenkoehler see screen below i have blurred the personal info. I dont think i did include the record ID to match on. How can i find this within Imports?
The only way that I’m aware of that would update a contact’s email address via import is by including the record ID. If that’s the case, the import file explicitly “told” HubSpot to update the record with the specific ID with a new email address.
If the import was done in the last 6 months, you can go into the imports section, find the import, hover your mouse over it, click more and download the original file:
@karstenkoehler I have downloaded the original file and there is no record ID fields for it to match on. The only other fields are first name and last name but these do not match the original contact
