Issue with CLS & LCP being flagged - Developer needed

Hello,

I need help - we use a Hubspot template and keep having problems with our core website vitals. In the latest google search console core web vitals health check, my company website is being flagged in two areas. LCP issue on the 11th of september for mobile - LCP issue: longer than 2.5s (mobile) and 2) CLS issue on dekstop that happened on the 5th of october. We have not made any changes to the website to cause this and the developer of the template says there haven’t been updates that could have caused this.

I’m looking for a hubspot developer to help run a core website health check and be able to recommend what is within our control and what is outside of our control.

Hi @NicoleDainton and welcome, it’s a pleasure to have you here!

Hey @NicoleDainton,

are you using a theme from the marketplace? If so:

  • which one?
  • are you using a child-theme of the theme (marketplace themes can’t be modified unless there’s a child-theme)
  • can you share the URL you’ve been checking?

furthermore: What cookie banner do you use? HubSpot or an external one like OneTrust, UserCentrics…

In general:
LCP can be affected by many different things these days, images, code, loading order of code snippets.

Happy to check and provide more details as well as some potential solutions.

Best,
Anton

Hi @Anton and @remingtonbegg, Thanks so much for coming back and I appreciate the quick diagnosis of what could potentially be going wrong.

Sure, here is a link to the page speed insights on one of the flagged URL’s: https://pagespeed.web.dev/analysis/https-executive-coaching-co-uk/w0pg4pf1kd?utm_source=search_console&form_factor=mobile&hl=en_GB

Around the CLS issue for Desktop. Here is a link to the google search console on a different page than our homepage for what it’s flagging: https://pagespeed.web.dev/analysis/https-executive-coaching-co-uk-our-coaches/vavppi2mly?utm_source=search_console&form_factor=desktop&hl=en_GB

I appreciate you looking at this.

Thanks,

Nicole

Hey @NicoleDainton,
thank you for the links.

Looks like you’re using Clean6 as the parent theme.
The good news: It seems like you’re using a child-theme - amazing.

This makes the optimization much easier.

A few tips which should be a real quick-fix:

  • reduce the page size by replacing the video of the “Transformation you can see and measure” section with a static image. While the video is thankfully already optimized for web (~5Mbytes), it’s significantly larger than everything else. Furthermore, try compressing the hero image futher. My rule of thumb is trying to compress/optimize big images so much that they’re not bigger than 250Kbyte, yours is 960Kbyte according to the page speed test

A few things I’m happy to discuss in a meeting (feel free to book a free one by clicking on my signature):

  • Child-theme setup
  • technical optimizations like preconnects and preloading (looks like they’re off)

Looking forward
Anton

Hi Nicole,

Since LCP and CLS are separate issues, I’d investigate each of the flagged URLs rather than assume they share the same cause.

I’d recommend a focused Core Web Vitals audit covering:

  1. LCP: Identify the actual LCP element, image optimization, loading priority, and render-blocking resources.

  2. CLS: Identify what’s shifting during page load, including image dimensions, font swaps, dynamically loaded content, and embedded components.

  3. JavaScript and third-party scripts: Check whether tracking, cookie consent, chat widgets, or other scripts are affecting rendering.

  4. HubSpot theme and templates: Review the Clean6 child theme, custom modules, CSS, and JavaScript for opportunities to optimize performance.

  5. Mobile and desktop testing: Compare PageSpeed Insights diagnostics with Search Console’s field data to distinguish isolated page issues from broader site-wide patterns.

The goal would be to identify what’s actually causing each issue, prioritize the fixes, and separate what can be addressed in the theme or page code from anything related to HubSpot’s underlying infrastructure.
