Good morning - we have a client with an interesting website set up. There are 2 GTM containers on the site tracking different industries, and I’m worried that if I install the HubSpot tracking code on both, it will cause issues.
They have 2 very different branches of business, so the home page allows you to select which business you want to visit.
Once the domain splits, on the front end, it looks like this, and each page after the split is basically like it’s own website. The “home page” isn’t the root domain anymore, but the /industry- page.
The big question: since HubSpot tracking operates at the domain level, if I install the tracking code to both GTM containers, will it fire twice if a contact were to visit BOTH websites?
I’ve looked in the Community but couldn’t find a similar thread. I want to tag some of our experts on this @Bryantworks@Mike_Eastwood@Aakar do you have any thoughts on this?
I recommend you install one code (for HubSpot) on each site, then filter by the URLs to get information on each site.
We currently use the same HubSpot Portal for our main site (www.webalite.com) and our HubSpot Integration site (https://toolkit.webalite.com/) which makes it easier for use to track across both sites.
In your case I would use the same Google Analytics Account too. You can split the data using the URL (with wildcards e.g. website.com/industry-A/* ) to get detailed information by industry.
Thanks @Mike_Eastwood! That’s what we’ll go with then. Good to know that having the same HubSpot code on the 2 different “subdomains” won’t cause any weird tracking as long as we add filters. Thanks!
