Our team is working on an integration with ClickUp and we are running into API limits. Our ClickUp engineer has reported the issue to be HubSpot related in that there is an API limit of 10 calls / second with our implementation. He states that we should be at 50 calls / second (3000/minute) per token to avoid it timing out.
Hey @inceptionco, quick clarification because the numbers your ClickUp engineer mentioned don’t quite match HubSpot’s actual rate limits. HubSpot doesn’t have a 50 calls/second tier. The limits are measured per 10 second window and depend on your subscription and app type:
For private apps it’s 100 requests per 10 seconds on Free/Starter, 190 per 10 seconds on Professional or Enterprise. For OAuth apps distributed via the marketplace it’s 110 per 10 seconds per installed account. So the “10 calls/second” your engineer is seeing is likely the 100 per 10 second burst limit on a Free or Starter portal (API usage guidelines and limits - HubSpot docs )
A few things to check and try: first, confirm which HubSpot subscription you’re on because jumping to Pro doubles your headroom. Second, there’s an API limit increase add on you can purchase that bumps private apps to 250 per 10 seconds (and you can stack two of them). Third, and this is usually where the biggest gains come from, make sure the integration is using HubSpot’s batch endpoints instead of individual calls. The batch API lets you create, update, or read up to 100 records in a single request, so instead of 100 individual calls you could be doing 1 call that handles 100 records. That alone usually solves the rate limit problem without needing a higher cap.
Also worth checking if the integration is polling HubSpot for changes or using webhooks. If it’s polling, switching to webhook subscriptions would cut the call volume significantly since HubSpot pushes the data to you instead of you asking for it repeatedly.
To provide more clarification on our situation, we are currently on the Sales Enterprise plan, which should put us at a 190/10 second tier. Our implementation team most likely accessed our account from a view-only or free seat.
We relayed the information to the implementation team at ClickUp and are waiting to hear back on next steps.
Thank you and we will come back with more questions if we reach another roadblock!
Hi @inceptionco
For HubSpot Private Apps, the API rate limits depend on the portal subscription tier. Free and Starter portals allow 100 requests within a 10-second rolling window, while Professional and Enterprise portals allow 190 requests within the same 10-second window.
For OAuth apps distributed through the HubSpot Marketplace, the limit is 110 requests per 10 seconds per installed account. Based on the behavior your engineer is observing (approximately 10 API calls per second), this is most likely due to the 100 requests per 10-second burst limit applied to Free or Starter portals, rather than a strict per-second limit. Once this burst threshold is reached within the rolling window, subsequent requests may be temporarily throttled until the window resets.
