I am using Professional and tried to import notes against a contact. I went to choose Notes and it is greyed out. Is it not available in professional
Hi @JGray30 to import notes, you’d need to use a multi-object import. You can create new notes this way, but you can’t modify existing notes.
Only calls and tasks can be imported as single objects.

- Select Multiple objects, then click Next.
- Select the objects and activities in your import file, then click Next.

If you have these notes in the same file as the contact information, you would have to choose:
Start an import > Import file from computer > One file > Multiple objects
If you have notes and contacts in two files, sharing a key that maps contacts to notes, you would choose:
Start an import > Import file from computer > Multiple files with associations
You can find this explained in detail here: Import records for multiple objects
Recommended fields for such an import are:
- Note body (required)
- Activity date (optional but helpful)
- Email (required)
You would then map these during the import process.

Hi, sorry if this is a silly question but in the first guide you linked above, there is a comment with a red/orange border: “Please note: emails, meetings, notes, and tasks cannot be updated via import, regardless of how you choose to import the data.”
EDIT: Please disregard, I have tested this and it does import the notes. The guide is maybe a little misleading? But there’s always a good chance I’m just looking at the wrong thing!
If I follow the steps above, will this add/append a new note against the contact, that will appear at the top of the notes tab? Or is this another kind of note?
We are going to a tradeshow and will be important a range of contacts, these notes are crucial for our sales team to be able to prioritize and prepare for the calls so they can give good, personalized demos to potential customers.
Appologies as this is an old post, but i cant find any newer information.
When I try to import notes, there is no ability to select that i am importing notes, only companies, contacts, deals ect. I have read so many help articles and none of them align with what im able to see. Is there still the abilty to import notes?

Hi Sari, from trying this yesterday I can probably help 
When you start the import, select the ‘single file’ option, then it asks what kind of data is in your file. You’ll see notes (under activities at the bottom) which is greyed out. Once you select the primary data you’re importing against (e.g. Contacts), Notes will no longer be greyed out and you can select it. I’ve attached a screenshot for reference.
