Thank you. What is the best way to geo locate contacts? I want to send invitations only to my local customers. It is frustrating for non-local customers to be invited to an in-person event they can’t attend
Hi @EllenE525,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community!
For information, I created a new post for you to have more visibility and help on the subject.
I found these similar topics that might help you:
- The solution from @karstenkoehler on this post “Searching Contacts or Companies by Geographic location”
- The solution from @himanshurauthan on this post “Contact / Company Locations”.
I also wanted to invite a couple of subject matter experts to this conversation @danmoyle, @Jnix284 and @OPerek-Clark do you have any other suggestions to help @EllenE525, please?
If anybody else has anything to add and/or share, please feel free to join in the conversation ![]()
Thank you and have beautiful day!
Best,

Thank you for the tag @BérangèreL, happy to share some thoughts with @EllenE525 about identifying local contacts.
I can definitely understand not wanting to invite non-local customers to an in-person event, but this can be challenging to achieve without their input.
Some of the solutions offer updating contacts based on company location - in my case, you would think I live in Germany when I actually live in Texas.
The GeoMapper: Map your companies and contacts without leaving HubSpot mentioned by Karsten looks to be the most reliable option and since you can try for free for the first 100 contacts/companies, it might be worth testing to see how it works with the data you have available.
Otherwise, I typically prefer to rely on self-identification from customers because it is the most reliable and gives them a chance to be opted in.
You could incorporate a link to a landing page in one of your regular communications that says something like, interested in attending local events?, and the landing page could use smart rules by country (uses IP so very reliable) to target your event location - this would let you have one LP design that allows those in your area to sign up and another LP design that says there aren’t any events in their country currently, but they can sign up to express interest if they became available.
+100 for @Jnix284’s point here on it being difficult without their input. It’s like emailing without consent. Asking is the best way IMO. Glad Jennifer’s was a solution here for you @EllenE525
And thanks for the tag @BérangèreL ![]()
Thank you. I will create a landing page with a form that adds them to a list called “locals” I appreciate everyone’s input on this. ~Ellen
You’re welcome @EllenE525, I’m happy this was helpful!
Hi @EllenE525 !
A great way to do this is with Mapsly — it automatically geo-locates your contacts based on their address and lets you filter by distance or region. Perfect for targeting only local customers for in-person events.
