Exclude Subdomains from Website Traffic Reporting

I’m encountering an issue with excluding certain subdomains from my website’s traffic reports on Hubspot.
We have several apps in use, and the traffic from these apps shows up as “direct” traffic, even though they are already part of our contacts and shouldn’t be counted in the website metrics.

The specific subdomain I want to exclude is solution.app.domain.com. However, it seems that HubSpot doesn’t allow blocking a subdomain if it’s part of the same root domain. For example, if domain.com is set as a site domain, app.domain.com cannot be excluded.

I want to exclude the app’s traffic specifically without affecting the entire domain.
How to address this? Any assistance would be appreciated.

Hi @02092 ,

Have you tried using “Limit tracking to these domains” under your HubSpot tracking settings?

You can configure this by going to:

Settings → Tracking & Analytics → Tracking Code → Advanced Tracking
Then enable the toggle for “Limit tracking to these domains”

Here’s the official help doc for reference: Set up site tracking in HubSpot

Alternative Option: If your internal app traffic comes from fixed or known IPs (e.g., your team, office, or servers), you can also try this - Go to: Settings → Reports → Tracking Code → Advanced Tracking → Exclude traffic from these IP addresses

Then enter your internal IP ranges.
This will exclude analytics data from those IPs across all domains and subdomains.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for your input.

1. “Exclude traffic from these IP addresses.” does not work for us since not only internal.
2. With Hubspots “Limit tracking to these domains” will it still not track it because

app.domain.com still falls under the umbrella of domain.com?

HubSpots custom reports I have found to be quite limiting regarding this. I cannot exclude entrance URLs from the reports.

Hi @02092
HubSpot doesn’t have native way to exclude subdomain traffic

If the traffic from solution.app.domain.com is internal or predictable (like coming from your team, clients, or partners), you can block that traffic using IP filters in your HubSpot settings. Just go to Settings > Reports & Analytics > Tracking Code > Advanced Tracking and add those IPs under “Exclude traffic from these IP addresses.”

In GTM, you can set up triggers to block HubSpot’s tracking script from firing on that subdomain. This way, no tracking request goes to HubSpot at all from the app.

if you’re using custom reports or external tools like GA4, you can filter traffic by hostname or landing page URL patterns and then create views that exclude anything with app.domain.com.
