Email open rates

Hello

I’m sending out prospect sales emails. I’m getting notified that they are opening them multiple times (like 25) or that they open them one minute after sending. Both I know are not true, so I have no idea who is actually opening them.

I’ve sent from laptop and iphone. I don’t see any difference. I’m sending to their work email address, so they are probably not opening them on their iphone (to have the Apple security issue)

Has this been solved? I’m on the Paid Sales Hubspot package

Hi @JNeal7,

A few things might be going on here. For one, these might be self-open email notifications, even if you’re not actively going through your Sent folder. Email clients pre-load and scan emails in the background and this might look to a tracking pixel like an open. Here’s how you can block those notifications: Block self-open email notifications with the HubSpot Sales Outlook desktop add-in or Chrome extension

Of course this might also be happening on the recipient’s end. An email might be cached for faster loading in a mobile app or scanned for potentially dangerous content. This might load the tracking pixel and be interpreted by HubSpot as an email open: Understand HubSpot Sales email open and click tracking | Knowledge Base

With iOS 15 and upwards, things have gotten even more complicated: https://community.hubspot.com/t5/Email-Marketing-Tool/iOS-15-let-s-talk-about-it/m-p/499877

In other words, in 2023 it’s hard to get valid information for email opens. (This is not just a HubSpot issue.)

Blocking self-open notifications might help + ignoring notifications when you get the impression that these opens are not caused by a human.

Best regards!
