Difference Between Context and Timing

Hey all,

I just went through this lesson in the Email Marketing course and couldn’t quite figure out the different between context and timing (they start talking about it somewhere betwen 0:58 and 1:40). I understand the definitions of context and timing, but they’re worded in a very similar way. Would be very grateful to anyone who knows the difference. Thank you!

hello, hope this helps.

Context = why this email makes sense for this person
It’s about relevance based on who they are or what they’ve done.

Examples:

  • They downloaded a guide → send a follow up related to that topic
  • They are a customer → send product usage tips
  • They viewed pricing → send a comparison or case study

So context answers: “Why is this email relevant to them specifically?”

Timing = when the email is sent in their journey
It’s about delivering that relevant message at the right moment.

Examples:

  • Immediately after they download something
  • 2 days after a demo request
  • 30 days before renewal
  • Right after they abandon a cart

So timing answers: “When is the best moment to send this?”
