Difference between Ads Clicked and Ads Activity?

Can someone help me understand the difference between these two Ads Activity instances on the Contact record? There are numerous “Ads Activity” logged on the record but not all say that the Ad was clicked. So, in instances where it omits the click information, does that mean it was an impression or just that the specific ad that was clicked wasn’t recorded?

Hi @LStier

Great question — Ads Activity entries can definitely be confusing when some show clicks and others don’t.

I’d like to bring a few Community members into the conversation who are very familiar with HubSpot ads tracking and attribution behavior.
@RubenBurdin @Christensen @GauravSaxena — hope you’re all having a great week! Can you help clarify what the different Ads Activity records represent on a contact timeline, and whether entries without click details indicate impressions, partial attribution, or missing click data?

Really appreciate any clarity you can share here.

Hi @LStier

Good question and youre not alone in finding this confusing, HubSpot’s ads activity logging isnt super intuitive at first glance.

So the short answer is no, those entries without click info are not impressions. HubSpot doesnt track impressions at the contact level, impressions are only available as aggregate metrics in your ads dashboard because ad networks dont pass individual impression data back to HubSpot. What you’re seeing in those “Ads Activity” entries without explicit click details are usually ad attributed conversions, meaning the contact converted (submitted a form, became a lead) and HubSpot attributed that conversion to an ad campaign, but the direct click event either wasnt captured or the attribution happened through a different path like view through attribution or a longer attribution window (Ads attribution in HubSpot )

The ones that explicitly say “clicked” are direct click events where HubSpot tracked the actual ad click before the conversion. The difference often comes down to how the ad network reported the data back and whether HubSpot could match the click to the contact directly versus inferring attribution after the fact. Facebook and Google handle this differently which adds to the confusion.

If you want cleaner visibility into this, check the Ads Attribution report under Reports > Analytics Tools > Ads, it breaks down interactions versus conversions more clearly. And if you ever need to pull this ad attribution data into an external database for deeper analysis or combine it with data from other systems, thats where tools like Stacksync become useful, but for just understanding whats on the timeline the attribution report should help clarify things. Note: This response was written based on my own experience and lightly reformatted with AI for clarity.

Hope that clears it up a bit.
