We have been using deposit payments on our quotes for years.
The new quoting tool is awesome but deposit payments are no longer available.
Is this coming soon?
Anyone have a decent workaround?

Hey @grant_growup
Thank you for posting your question!
I want to share a community thread with workarounds and more context for your issue: https://community.hubspot.com/t5/Commerce-Tools/Taking-a-down-payment-or-deposit/m-p/640548#M124
Here are some Knowledge Base articles that are useful as well:
Also, I’m tagging a few community experts that may have ideas or workarounds here: Hey @danmoyle @GaroAroian @HubDoPete hope you’re having a great week!
Are there any ideas or workarounds you can share with us?
Thanks!
Victor
Maybe I am missing something but I don’t see anything relevant. All
comments are from years ago and I am not sure they even refer to the new
quotes process.
Maybe you could point me to some that answer this question.
Thanks
@grant_growup I think it’s maybe just a matter of verbiage. Deposit payments are supported in the new CPQ quoting tool through payment schedules and partial payments. The feature lets you (and the client) split one-time quote payments over time, such as collecting a deposit upfront while scheduling the balance. It’s part of Commerce Hub Professional or Enterprise, where you configure it in the quote’s Payments tab during creation.
Setup Steps from HubSpot’s KB are:
That’s what I’ve seen with the new quoting tool. Hope that helps!
Dan, Thanks for your reply.
I must be missing something, I don’t see those options.
I have added a line item but cannot see where to split the payments on the billing or payments tab.
That is how we did it on legacy quotes. Also, if this helps the second payment cannot be scheduled as the timing of when it is due can’t be determined up front. Happy to chat offline if you wnat to email me grant@growup.green. (I think we met at Inbound)
@grant_growup I know we’re chatting privately, but I wanted to drop it in here for visibility so others can find value, and maybe some help, in our conversation. ![]()
Here’s a bit of what I know through HubSpot documentation and research (I’m not in sales so I don’t use the quote tool daily). The Payments tab in the quote editor requires specific prerequisites: a connected payment processor (HubSpot Payments or Stripe), Commerce Hub seat assignment (that might be the kicker here), and enabling payments during quote setup. Schedules are supposed to be configured directly in the Payments tab before finalizing, not per line item like legacy quotes.
This is how it’s supposed to work in the set-up:
In my experience with HubSpot as of late, with the seat changes, that is often a sticking point. I might be simplifying that a bit, so if I’m missing the mark there, let me know. In the meantime, I’ll check in with my sales colleagues to see if they’re running into any similar issue or maybe have a fix.
That doesn’t work in practice unless I am really missing something
Were you able to find a solution? Running into this same issue. Had to start a legacy quote from a non-Commerce Hub seat in the meantime.
@karstenkoehler @Josh @JWingate2 @Phil_Vallender @TomM2 anyone have advice for @grant_growup here?
@grant_growup Confirmed with HubSpot that Commerce Hub Pro does not currently support payment schedules/installment payments in the new quote builder. Only Legacy Quotes support payment schedules/installments.
It’s on the roadmap (possibly 2026).
Hi @grant_growup,
It looks like manual payments are coming soon through the new CPQ functionality. Once that is live I would expect the payment schedule functionality to be included (this is an assumption, I haven’t been specifically told this).
In the meantime, the only thing I can think of for a workaround is to have a specific line item for deposit that is collected immediately and then the remaining payments are set to delayed, either by a specific date or by days/months.
There could be other workarounds like creating a separate deposit payment link and adjusting the quote accordingly, but that seems even less ideal than my original suggestion.
Neither are great, but hopefully that functionality gets carried over soon.
Thanks for the ping @danmoyle!
This is the only flaw I’m seeing with my demo of the Commerce Hub quotes. We too require a 50% deposit payment to be made either electronically or through check or wire transfer. The final 50% is due when we deliver our product to the customer (physically).
I have the same process. Do you have a workflow that allows 50% deposit and remainder on delivery?
I have the payment terms listed in another content section, and I’m not
using the Invoice section at all. Then I just make a separate invoice with
a line item “50% Deposit” to send to the customer. The other problem we
have is that apparently Stripe doesn’t recognize decimal unit quantities,
such as 105.5 square feet @ $X.XX per square foot. (We sell siding.) I
don’t know why a decimal is a problem for an invoice that can just round to
the nearest penny.
Thanks for sharing your use cases here! The workaround of creating a separate deposit invoice with a line item is a solid interim approach, and the decimal quantity issue with Stripe is definitely worth flagging. As confirmed earlier in the thread, payment schedules in the new CPQ builder are on the roadmap - hopefully that addresses both of your needs when it lands.
Looping in some of the previous contributors who may have additional context or workarounds! Hey @_allenstone, @JHarcrow, @Josh -- do you have any suggestions for our friends here?
Thanks in advanced!

Payment schedules are not going to help all use cases.
We have to have a use case where we take a deposit that posts to AR but is
not matched to an invoice.
e.g. I get paid $10,000 up front for 6 months of retainer work on a project
estimated at $20,000 but billed by the hour.
$10,000 is posted to the AR Account. As I deliver the hours in month 1 I
raise an Invoice for $4000, month 2 $5000, month 6 $10000, to complete job
that came in under budget. Client receives invoice for $10,000 less $1,000
paid and pays $9,000.
This is critical in many businesses and all businesses in my industry. I
would collect 4x money through Hubspot if I had this functionality. Now
Quickbooks gets my business

Hey @grant_growup, our app DocuGen can put the deposit on your quotes again, and it can show the deposit against each retainer invoice too, all generated from the deal. Store the deposit received and the amount applied so far in deal properties, then drop them into your quote and invoice templates next to the line items. Month 6 then prints the $10,000 in hours, less the $1,000 still held from the deposit, with the $9,000 balance due. Each PDF saves to the deal’s attachments, so nobody leaves HubSpot to make one.
Have a look at our marketplace listing.
P.S. The free plan gives you 400 documents a month with no watermark, and unlimited users so your whole team can use it at no cost.
