I’m new so please be patient.
I initially uploaded 9500 records. I deleted all of them, scrubbed my email list at bounceless.io (not a commercial for them lol) and uploaded 4400 scrubbed records. Then I go into contacts in hubspot and it’s showing 9500 records. I went into contacts > lists and deleted all the previous static lists leaving only the Static list with the 4400. But I go back to contacts and the 9500 are there.
Any ideas. I just want to work through the 4400. I can go to Contacts > Lists and looks like I can work from the list of 4400 and send those contacts into a sequence but then it goes back to the contact screen and shows the 9500 records. ugh.

Can you confirm that you’re following these steps when you say you’re deleting contacts? Delete CRM records
A few things might be happening here:
- The total contacts number in the top left corner of the contacts index page (Menu > Contacts > Contacts) takes a moment to update. It would be unusual if it took longer than a few seconds, still that’s what might be happening. Have you verified that these contacts actually came back or just looked at the number?If it’s the latter, can you clear cache/cookies and then come back to the page to check if the count has changed?
- Is there potentially a co-worker or other user who restores the contact? Restore deleted records
- Is there potentially an integration which simply re-creates these contacts? You can check under Settings > Integrations > Connected Apps / Private Apps.
Lastly, if the above don’t help: Please find any contact that was deleted but keeps coming back. Click “View all properties” in the left sidebar of this contact record and look up the original and latest soruce property values. Can you share a screenshot of what you’re seeing?

Just adding to @karstenkoehler’s points, you said in your post that you “went into contacts > lists and deleted all the previous static lists” - deleting lists is not the same as deleting contacts. Lists are simply a filtered view of your datebase, deleting a list deletes those filters but not the contacts.
To delete contacts in a list do the following:
- Go into your contacts view → Advanced filters → select list membership → select the list in question
- Select all contacts and make sure to click the highlighted “select all contacts”
- Then delete those contacts.
