Delayed First Billing Month Causing Contract End Date Miscalculations

I’m trying to use the Hubspot Contracts function, but the timing of when Hubspot starts the monthly billing causes the contract end date to not calculate correctly. Here’s the scenario:

July 1, 2026 is the start date of the contract. The term is 36 months, and the contract will end June 30, 2029. July 1, 2026 is also the start of billing, which includes:

  • Implementation: Payable over the first 4 months of the agreement. First invoice starts 7/1/26.
  • Monthly Support: Payable every month for all 36 months. First invoice starts 7/1/26.

When I built this quote with the billing terms above and the quote was approved, the Hubspot Contracts showed a contract start date of July 1, 2026, but it showed a contract end date of July 31, 2029. The contract is supposed to end June 30, 2029.

Hubspot Support indicated that Hubspot is “offsetting the first billing period to August 1 — effectively adding one extra month before the count begins. This means it’s calculating 36 periods from August 1, 2026 rather than July 1, 2026, landing the final period on July 1–31, 2029 and the Contract End Date on July 31.”

Hubspot proposed billing annually so that the contract end date would show correctly, but if we were to do that, we’d have to change the way we quote and we shouldn’t have to do that.

Are there any suggestions on how we can get Hubspot to enable billing on July 1, 2026 and not push back billing a month?

Unfortunately, this issue is preventing us from using the Hubspot Contracts function, the Renewals function (because the contract end date is incorrect), and also the Billing function. It feels like we’re missing out on a huge chunk of the Revenue Hub capabilities because of this.

Hi there @JWan1,

Thank you for posting to the Community! I’d like to tag in some of our Top Contributors to see if they have any ideas on this one – Hi @Alex_Elborn @ChrisoKlepke and @HubDoPete do any of you all have any advice for @JWan1?

Thank you in advance!

Support’s explanation and Support’s workaround don’t fit together. If the offset is one billing period, moving to annual puts your end date on 30 June 2030. If itsliterally one extra month, annual puts you on 31 July 2029, still a month out. Either way annual billing shouldn’t fix this so I’d ask them why they think it does before you change how you quoteit will help understand whether this is a documented rule or just what your particular setup produced.

From Support’s own explanation the end date is calculated, not typed, so the August
date is stored somewhere upstream, what i would look for:

  1. Open the approved quote’s Monthly Support line item and check the billing start date it actually saved, plus anything sitting in the billing delay field.
  2. Check whether billing was set to a fixed date or to start when the quote is paid or signed. That’s the setting most likely to turn 1 July into the next period.
  3. Look at how Implementation is built. If it’s an upfront charge split across four invoices rather than a 4-term recurring item, HubSpot may be treating 1 July as the upfront and starting the recurring count after it.
  4. Check the date on the first invoice it generated. 1 July means the quote stored what you asked for and the contract math is wrong. 1 August means the quote is where it broke.

That last split matters, because those are two different problems and Support answered as if it is one.

I haven’t set up Contracts myself, so thats where I would start looking and not a fix but that split is worth doing first either way
