Define custom Return-Path without a dedicated IP

We’re coming up on two years of this request being open. 70+ upvotes. I’ve personally emailed support 3x about the deliverability issues we’re continuing to see as a result of not having a custom return path (and other issues with the Hubspot IP set)

Here is a comparison of our domain reputation at Google across two different ESPs. The first is with Sendgrid (average reputation in the high 90’s). Sendgrid offers us a custom return path on a $100/mo account (a tiny fraction of what we pay HUBS). The second is with Hubspot (average reputation in the mid-70s). Guess which email provider gives us the most problems with delayed deliveries, blocklists, soft bounces, etc?

Hubspot management should be ashamed that they charge the rates they do and provide such poor email infrastructure. I’d switch providers today if we weren’t so hooked into the Hubspot ecosystem or if we had more internal resources to manage the migration.

Increasingly frustrated every time I look at these reports.

Agree we need this feature.

Masked return path domain, SPF alignment ++
If HubSpot wants to be a leader in this space, this is a feature that new and existing users would be glad to pay for.

+1 on this feature request, we also need the custom return path feature.

I can’t believe this hasn’t been prioritized yet. We will be looking to move CRMs/email providers if this isn’t fixed soon.

When is this finally comming?

Arriving here from this other closely related idea, The custom return path/CNAME implementation is fairly simple and would allow HubSpot email to finally become SPF aligned. After a long conversation with HubSpot support, I was surprised that learn that it was not our configuration that causing 0% SPF aligment, it was HubSpots lack of support for a custom “Mail From”, as most other serious providers out there do support.

It is a bit disheartening to see that these ideas have been promoted here for so long, though seemingly without any attention from HubSpot.

So I’m still a bit new to DMARC - Can I still implement DMARC DNS policies on my domains even with this missing feature from Hubspot? I have confirmed we are SPF and DKIM aligned for everything we send Except for Hubspot, which shows us the error being discussed here (Set up a custom return-path).

based on @Chris46 comments, it sound like DMARC policy can be enabled, I just have to keep the default “relaxed” settings. Appreciate anyone’s feedback.

Any update on this?

More than 2 years later this simple fix is not there. C’mon, Hubspot, you position your USP as “marketing oriented CRM”, but your email marketing is full of holes, that puts you out of this category. We already opted for other tool in sequences, now when it comes to marketing emails seems that we can’t have crucial compliance feature fixed. Hard to believe.

113 upvotes and counting. Pleaaaaase do this :folded_hands:

Still waiting - anyone serious about email knows DMARC is a good thing and getting DKIM and SPF aligned is important.

Same here, very surprised this feature is not available at HubSpot.

Please add it to the roadmap and advise when we can set a custom return path to alleviate SPF failures or otherwise advise why it cannot be done.

Thanks!

Adding another comment +1 to increase visibility. This is much needed to avoid spam issues which over time is severely decreasing Hubspot’s value.

This is a huge issue for deliverability. We’re considering moving off of HubSpot over this single issue.

Our engineering team sent me this link and I had to see it to believe it. This is almost as bad as the inability to embed tables in emails:

https://community.hubspot.com/t5/HubSpot-Ideas/Add-tables-to-drag-and-drop-email/idi-p/276501

242 upvotes on that bad boy and still nothing.

Someone must be interested in writing a story about a marketing platform that hasn’t figured out email yet … ? Dharmesh must cry himself to sleep at night when he’s not writing about how culture and good management result in high performing (ahem!) teams.

We too would like the ability to fix this concern given we use Hubspot and many modules.

Much needed here also.

It’s been a while since i follow the thread expecting the feature to be implemented but i guess i’ll have to wait (a lot??) more …
Thank you in advance

Let me add my +1 here just real quick … this needs a solution.

Hubspot is still indicating that the “dedicated IP” is the only solution for $3,600/yr.
“You need a dedicated IP to have a custom return path - this is why you and other members of the community aren’t seeing it outright available in marketing hub professionals. Dedicated IPs are an additional $300 per month, you can purchase it through us at HubSpot and HubSpot would help monitor it for health.”

I argue that other email heavy products can do SPF without dedicated IP’s and additional costs. It sounds like Hubspot might be willing to discount the dedicated IP if we push hard enough, but there was no indication that they will have a fix for this anytime soon. If this is important to your security teams, then you’ll have to commit to the extra cost or find a different solution.
